Oh. What an interesting thread that you have opened up.
I would first like to add that a "Magical School" would be vastly different from that of our Mundane Education. In our mundane schools that we enter into, there is a relative uniformity that pretty much all the schools adhere to.
In magic, there are so many traditions, so many systems that, I am of the opinion that relative uniformity, would be impossible to occur. A minor similarity perhaps. Just like there are no such thing as a "Martial Art School", there are however Schools (Or perhaps Dojos or Orders) that teach Judo, Taekwondo etc. The same concept would apply for "Magical Schools"...but it would be so much more varied and different.
There have been many Magical Orders throughout history where they do teach students, somewhat like a "School". Some of them even competed for the same group of students! Some Rosicrucian Orders in the 19th century do come to mind. Or was it the 20th? My knowledge of Magical History is somewhat faded.
An Order that teaches High Magick would perhaps teach it's students Alchemy, the Hermetic Qabbalah, Ritual Work, Evocations, Astrology, and more.
Yet, there are many other schools of magic that would never touch the above mentioned subjects in their system! It is so varied and subjects can be somewhat mutually exclusive that it is really really unique and exciting!
Oh. I am quite fond of your thread. I do hope more people comment and share what subjects that the various Orders they are familiar with do teach.
Like what the last persons reply that school would teach a variety of things.
They would probably teach all of the moon phases so the kids could be more comfortable with moon magick. You would also probably be able to enroll in what ever you want at a young age because of religion and the many types of magick.
They would also probably teach rituals and energy control. This would be super helpful for the kids as they start their journey in magick. Energy control would be a main factor as you use energy to perform magick so learning a PSI ball would probably be the best bet. Soon enough you could be able to teach them how to program a PSI ball which is also a very simple thing.
Also meditation would be a great help so they can awaken their chakras. If these things were fought it would be a great magick school. I hope this helped.
When I first read the term "Magical School" used by the Original Poster, I thought it would be for like...adults. The idea of kids learning magic did not even cross my mind. At all. It is a concept that seem so...bizarre that it didn't even register. I think that 99.999% of children would not have the maturity to deal with the study of magic. For the remaining few that made the cut, the idea of putting them in a group to learn together....does not really seem sound. Solitary Study and Practice would be fine but placing them in a group? Doesn't really inspire confidence.
I re-read the Original Post and I just realized that the Original Poster used the words have to go . My previous response on this thread was geared towards the school being optional . I guess I should have read the thread much more carefully. My habit of reading something and then replying hours later caused this mistake.
Magic...is not suited for everyone. A mandatory School just sounds like a bad idea.
@W.D Gaster
My previous post is not really about saying that a Magical School teach a huge variety of things.
My main point was that it would be really hard for 2 Magical Schools to even teach the same subjects unless they both subscribe to the same system. A subject that is highly important in one system can be completely irrelevant in another
The most important they would teach would be the basics and how to control the body and mind most likely. After you would get through thst then you move along actually practicing magick and make goals for yourself. Most Mystic schools are closed to the public but some you can join for a fee. You would have to work your way up the ladder like neither the Tree of Knowledge or Tree of Life or both.
