Goddess of agriculture, a grain goddess as well as a goddess of growing vegetation or an Earth mother. Demeter is also known as a goddess of health, birth, and marriage, but also death due to her reaction to loosing her daughter, Persephone to the underworld for most of the yearwhereshe resides with Hades. Demeter's favorite animal is the pig and she is often depicted with snakes and a lit torch on her trips into the underworld in search of her daughter.
Common symbology; harvest items, a sheaf of wheat or other grain, cornucopia, torch, bread, and honey. Known also as a fertility goddess so any symbols relating to fertility or birth are also good representations or offering for Demeter.
One does not need to follow any one path in order to celebrate or work with Demeter. Nor does one have to call themselves anything particular to do so. If your heart is willing to be open to her, Demeter will be a loving mother goddess towards any being :)
