This can be interpreted in several ways.
It was most likely an accident since glass is fragile, but sometimes things break when their purpose has been fulfilled e.g. hag stones are said to break when their protective power has been used to save a life.
Witch bottles are slightly different though so I think it should be interpreted in the same way as someone who chooses to dismantlea jar. In this case, it's likely that the magic in the spell will just get released and the effects will stop. If this is the case then I suggest either taking this as a sign that this spell was not the right course of action, and you should do something else (e.g. forgive the person, ignore them, or try another spell) or you should just make a new witch bottle.
There is one more interpretation, whereby the practitioner chooses to throwthe jar in a fire until it bursts, which is an indication that the person the jar is for is being tortured, and so for you the spell would be working.
Listen to your intuition as to which interpretation is to correct you; look for signs, meditate on it, etc.
In brief; either seek another method, make a new jar, or see it as a sign that the spell worked. Use your intuition and divinate about it. Cleanse the room and yourselfboth physically and magickally, maybe burn some incense to help with the smell.
I hope this helps :)
