How do I know which covens are actually taking applications and which arnt?

I'm not entirely sure on that. I do pay attention to the coven forums and see if any coven posts are recent. Looking at the date of the threads and posts helps me determine which are newest.

Penta Magic is currently accepting applications for membership and a council position.

Go to the Covens' pages in Groups. If you click on the name of the coven it will tell you at the top of the page whether they are accepting applications. Then, if you find one you like, follow the instructions that that coven posts in order to apply.
