Rhythmic drums

Has anyone used hand or leather drums to use rhythm while chanting? I've noticed it gives me a good vibration when I preform rituals or doing energy work.

The drum is associated very strongly with earth energy. Particularly old/primordial or primal. It is the heartbeat of any song, setting the pace and often emotion also. Apropos seeing as musical meters are still based on the pace of a human heart.

On a personal-gnosis aside, I find the drum and heart are strongly linked. A slow, steady beat calms and steadies my heart. A faster, stronger beat likewise quickens the heart and gets my blood pumping. I guess I may just synchronize with what drum puts out. But, at least personally, I find it to be a powerful tool for stirring up my primal side.
