knife & book in my attic?

My neighbors stopped by yesterday to ask if I have seen their cat and let me know something had killed all of their ducks :(. Well after they left I decided to go up and make sure the cat didn’t somehow get into my attic. Well I found a weird knife sitting on top of a book called Asatru? No clue who left it there but they had to break into my house to do it. I picked up the knife and instantly felt like I shouldn’t have?

Do you live entirely alone? If not, then there are other possibilities for a book on Asatru to end up in your attic.

You seem to be suggesting some sort of conclusion you want others to come to, as if contemporary practices of Asatru have anything to do with a missing cat or dead ducks. If you're attempting to lead some to such a conclusion, it's better to say so out-right than to attempt to lead them on.

The two separate situations (supposedly) exist. Fine. Are you suggesting they are related? Why? What specifically about the one leads you to believe it is even remotely associated with the other?

Well I guess the part about the cat was not important and I could have left it out entirely but it was the reason I went upstairs in the first place.

Just to add another thing here. There is nothing at all threatening about Asatru. Asatru is simply a neo-Pagan religion based on ancient Scandinavian beliefs. You can read more about it at https://www.asatru.org/aboutasatru.php

It is, of course, possible that someone who lived in the home before you moved there followed the beliefs and practices of Asatru. It is also possible that someone who lives with you is practicing it in secret so that others don't get the wrong idea about what they are doing.

I can see the chain of events, missing cat led to checking attic. Sometimes useful information. I appreciate it being cleared up too as not intended to being related.

I must admit the mystery has piqued my interest a bit, and I have a couple questions. The details might help bring a little clarity to the situation.

1)where did you find the book and knife? Were they specifically in the same place and together? Were they in a box or trunk? Out on a table (or makeshift table) of some sort? Or somewhere more deliberately concealed like tucked into a hole, joist, corner, etc? Was the book or knife wrapped in anything? Paper, cloth, in a bag... if so what was it wrapped in?

2) Specifically what book is it? There have been many publications and editions put out there, some focused on culture and history, others on magic and lore, and still more as new-age reinterpretations and self-help gimic writings. What is the Author, title, edition, and publishing date? (Can be found on the covers). Or is it more like a hand-written diary?

3) can you describe the knife, it's style and construction? Even better would be if you could take a picture (They an be hosted on your profile) or find the specific piece on Google. I am assuming it is a bit stylised, probably has a sheath, but the style and age could narrow down where it came from. There is actually a lot of neat stuff out there that you can buy these days, so it might not be very old or even uncommon.

3)do you live with anyone? Parents, siblings, roommate, significant other? Do any of these people have an interest in spirituality or magic? Do you? If so then you might have just stumbled on to a future birthday (or other special event) gift.

4) in what way did you feel wrong about disturbing the items? Could it have been just anxiety over the novelty over what you found? Or that guilty feeling of handling someone elses' stuff/feeling like you were snooping or prying? Was it more instinctive, like handling it gave a distinct feeling of "This isn't for me, I need to put it back"? Like an instinctive knowledge that it specifically belongs to someone else and ... like it has a personality and doesn't -want- to be disturbed by you? Basically, is this an internal anxiety/voice saying, "I shouldn't do this" or a more external influence/voice saying, "You shouldn't do this"?

And finally, does the book and blade look unused? IE; dusty, dry, dirty, like it has been sitting a long time? Or is it clean and shiny, smooth, and cared for? Does the blade look cleaned and oiled or shiny-new... Or does it have scratches and little rust spots? Are the book pages crisp, no cracks in the spine, etc or does it look as books do after they have been read?

A lot of small and specific details, I know, but those are what reveal the goings-on. Small details make big differences.
