In Hoodoo, spirits of the dead are housed in what is called a Spirit Pot or Spirit Box. The ceremony for consturcting a spirit pot takes seven days and is completed at midnight on the final day. The spirit pot is also dedicated to the family of Gede, since working with the pot is also working with the dead.
Having a Spirit Pot or a Spirit Box can be and is a huge responsibility. If it isn't properly taken care of (feeding, offerings), the spirit can turn against it's owner, which in the same sense is like a psychic attack. I am told that the rituals for consturcting these Spirit pots cannot be made available to the general public because the serve as "homing" devices for a working spirit.
Wow now this is interesting Lizzie. See my main and only fear with Voodoo and also Hoodoo IS working with the spirits, but it almost seems mandatory in these traditions. My question here, is is it mandatory and how exactly do you cease control of the spirit in the spirit pot or box?

In Voodoo you dont control the spirits, you work with the spirits and serve the spirits.

I want to add that the rituals for making these are NOT made public as working with these can be a dangerous thing, especially if they are not taken care of properly, the spirits living inside them CAN and WILL turn on their owners/caretakers.
I just thought this was a very interesting subject, and wanted to post it.
Also, working with the spirits in Hoodoo and Voodoo, proper offerings are a necessity. I have heard that if you do not make offerings after working with them, they can and will steal from you, and probablly taunt you and make you miserable.
So how would one obtain such information should they decide to deal with spirits regularly as a part of the path they walk?

My understanding is this:
In order to have the rituals to make a spirit pot or a spirit box, you have to be initiated into Voodoo.
