Lavender - love, protection, sleep, chastity, longevity, purification, happiness, peace.
Lilac: Wisdom, memory, good luck and spiritual aid.

Both have a very calming and cleansing effect when burned. For magical uses of herbs I suggest you look up "Cunninghams Encyclopedia of Magical Herbs". There are free pdf's online.
