Making Rune Stones/Tiles

I by no means am a runes expert as I am still studying the subject, but I do know how to make your own rune stones. Making your own rune stones or tiles not only lets you personalize them but also have a greater connection with them energy-wise and spiritually.

I am talking of the Elder Futhark or the Norse runes that are more commonly seem but I don't see why you can't do this with a different set of runes or some you create yourself (which I imagine would be an awesome challenge!)

To make them with stones:
1) Somehow obtain 24 polished crystals with as flat a surface as you can get (they don't need to be square but round spheres won't really work). You can either order them from here or even just go find one of those little booths in a store that has those bags you can fill with stones and use those.
2) Using a paint marker or paint, draw the runes in carefully on the stones. I'd use a paint marker since it's easier and permanent. Most people use metallic gold or dark red.
3) Cleanse and purify the stones and fill with energy. Place them in a black bag or secure box to store.

To Make them with wood tiles (what I did):
1) Get 24 wood tiles or disks (I personally used disks). Most craft stores should have these around the wood crafts area or the area with the wooden dowels.
2) Paint (generally red or gold) or carve the runes into the surface. I personally carved mine and I'll say, some of these disks were not meant to be carved. Meaning it's a hard wood and you must be VERY CAREFUL when carving. Please please don't cut yourself! It helps to draw the runes lightly in pencil before carving.
3) (If you carved) You can put paint in the carvings to make them stand out (generally red or gold) or leave them be. You can also put a wash of paint over the tiles if you wish to make the whole tile a different color. Simply mix paint and a bit of water then brush it lightly over. It'll give it a slight dyed kind of look.
4) Seal if needed. Cleanse and purify and fill with energy then place in black bag or secure box to store.

To read and use these are another topic entirely! I will start a thread on this soon, but if you have any questions feel free to comment and ask. I personally highly advocate making your own rune stones as they create such a strong connection right from the start, I mean mine work very well with me.

If you were curious, I carved my runes into circular wooden disks then painted the carvings with purple paint. I then did a wash of silver paint over all the tiles. They definitely are not in traditional colors but purple and silver are important colors to me so I went ahead and used them.

Good luck!

That is the site I use, actually :) It also has quite a few layouts as well as meanings, symbols, names, and how to read them.
