A wand is essentially a tool used to project magickal energies. If you think about it, you can use a wand in practically any spell. Not everyone has/preffers a wand, but it is a great tool to have when getting into higher magicks.
I am not much of a cursing person myself, nor hexing person, but i am sure others can help you around the site. Also, you might want to go into a book store and purchase a book about Witchcraft and maybe a desired path you wish to learn.
