When going to the cemetery to buy cemetery soil at the front gates it is good to give offering. You can give 9 pennies on your way in a silver coin or some rum and also on your way out for safe travel. When purchasing cemetery soil you are making a contract with some one who has passed away to work for you for a short period of time. The two oldest graves usually male and female are the Guardian graves. One must pay an offering to the graves were you dig the soil, since the cemetery soil is the property of the dead. The soul energy of the persons grave plot is retained in the soil. It is important to ask if you can dig. Graveyard dirt is used to summon the dead. It has many uses and is a Hoodoo Rootwork practice. What you are doing is making a contract with someone who has died. If you feel an uneasy feeling, dig somewhere else. When you find a grave it is important to leave offering, that could be a shot of alcohol,3 pennies or a silver coin inside the hole you had dug, then cover the soil up,you always ask permission to do this usually it is done at night around midnight. You can walk up to the grave and state your case in what you want done, then you would pay your offering, for labour from the dead, using the soil for that person that is willing to work with you. Leave the grave site just as you found it,you want to be respectful. Upon leaving you would leave the Gaurdian Spirit at the gates of the cemetery for safe travel.

Remember to a check the laws where you live before taking anything from a cemetery. Taking grave dirt or anything else from a cemetery could be considered by the law to be desecrating a gravesite and you could find yourself in a lot of legal trouble over it.

Also, most cemeteries close their gates at nightfall. Entering a cemetery after hours is considered to be trespassing and if you are also taking something from a gravesite it becomes criminal trespass which carries even harsher legal penalties.
