I am wanting to open a mirror portol to the spirt world. I have googled but not much has come up to help me. I want to open it for my loved ones to come and go. Is it possible? If so any information would be brilliant. Thank you. Carolyn.
In regards to a portal like this being possible, in the past I believe during the Victorian Era, individuals would cover the mirrors when a loved one fell Ill. This was done, to keep a person's spirit from entering a mirror and becoming stuck.
This brings up the thought's of loved ones at the time, respect for the spirit of a person. Letting them or helping them move on, not becoming "stuck."
So, in old times individuals did view the mirror as a possible portal and today many still do.
But is this truly the way in which you want to feel closer to your loved ones?
I'd personally recommend you look instead into ancestor reverence and altars. As well as ancestor work, and spirit communication, and psychic development.
These methods of becoming closer to our loved ones are more reverent, and come from a place of respect for those whom have gone before.
This is only my personal opinion. And, there may be others here whom have more information specific to mirrors.
I agree with much of what CrystalSeer already said. Mirrors were often viewed as a sort of... trap I guess. Or more like a hazard? Because mirrors reflect the world around them, containing a reflection of it inside, it could trick souls into mistakingly entering the mirror and getting lost or stuck.
Though, mirrors are also common tools for scrying and viewing into spiritual levels as well. Especially if it is a naturally formed mirror like a water-mirror or made from certain polished stones/minerals. One would stare into and through the mirror, looking behind the surface to draw out opportunities for new images to appear. Similar to staring into a scrying sphere or stone (think your classical 'crystal ball'). Perhaps adapting a combination of meditation and scrying can help you get to your goal.
One exercise I have heard of is setting up two mirrors facing eachother, then sitting between them in a way you can see their infinite/fractal reflections- Preferably without yourself being in the image if you can manage it. Then stare down into the tunnel of reflections as if looking into as far a distance as you can. It can be akin to the idea of staring into the infinite.
Yes I remember people would cover mirriors if a loved one died. I guess I'm just looking for a way to connect to the spirt world. I do have an alter in my room ans I light a candle every high for my twin sister who past away.
I'm still learning my path and I've been on it almost three years.
Is there a way I can try and speak with my sister? I've used an oujia board and pendulam but feel they didn't really work. I love my pendulum though. And I'm learning how to work more with my crystals.
To attempt to communicate with your sister I would recommend meditation. Perhaps meditating on an internal image of her (mind's eye) and asking her if she has anything to tell you.
If this doesn't work the first few times, keep trying. My best advice here is to try and remain open with little expectations.
Thank you so very much. I have tried to meditate before but found it hard to focus as I suffer from anxiety and pantic attacks. However I use it to relax at night. I find the meditation hard where you have to see things.
I mostly do candle magick as I really love it but feel my spells dont work.
One method I personally use is an ancestral altar. Pictures and items associated with your loveed one can be placed on the altar. If you have more than one loved one you want to contact, you can do an ancestral, family altar for communication with several loved ones.
Place pictures of your loved one, trigger objects (items they owned or items that had special significance to them), incense and offerings to show appreciation of them.
If you like, you can also write poetry or lyrics for them as well. You can also create a welcoming or invitational chant to ask them to join you at the altar.
