Familiar or Coven

What is better for development and spiritual progress. I think a familiar is better for the friendship and bond but there are advanced forms of magic better suited for coven. I’m asking because for many they have to choose between the two. In what circumstances can you make time and devote energy towards one of the two and in when can you benefit from both? Share your experience.
