Raven, it's not so much me that I am worried about. I've been practicing for over 10 years, and when I first started you had to spend a year in study before your first ritual, and you had to learn the Sabbat rituals and esbat rituals before you could learn of spell casting. The theory then was you must first learn to tune in to the power that the goddess radiates before you can worry about casting a spell. I'm more worried about the true believers who get on this site as their first stop in learning the craft and seeing people talking about teleportation spells and other things of imagination and movies. I'm simply making a call for all of the true Witches of this site/forum to post true information, and put aside the focus on spells for a while. A self written spell is more powerful than one you get off a website
S p e l l s of magic.
Its only natural that a site with such a name be mostly about spells.
I wouldn't know much about Wicca or the God/Goddess thing, I'm a non-religious witch, and I don't worship any god or goddess.
I think circles and such would be considered as a part of the basics, and for most of the basics people tend to go offsite, Personally I've never used a circle or anything like that during spellwork.
Some will also prefer to find a teacher to learn the basics.
As I see it Witchcraft is the bending and twisting of energies to your liking, balancing yourself with nature, yada yada, but then again thats just my opinion and belief and thats all it'll ever be.
some of us arent wiccian and we have our own way of doing things this has been a useful sightfor me bacause i have come to meet people like me. But u have to know most people on this site care less about real knowledge or true power. all they want is to cast spells like they see in Potter or Twilight its ridiculious the first spell i cast was to save my life and it worked magic should be about tapping in to who u are not about doing stuff in life that u find boring i use magic only when there is no other option for me if some one does me wrong then i go to the authoriteies i dont cast hurt spells on them i only do that to people who do stuff to other people and i damn sure wouldnt try to dye my hair with magic
To Resonance and PureChaos, I actually stated in the first post that this was actually not directed to anyone who does not follow a tradition based on Witchcraft, though I should have been more specific and stated British traditional witchcraft which is the basis for the Wicca that most practice. I do understand that there are other magickal paths that do not worship a central goddess/god, however to the followers of the paths I aforementioned, the goddess/god is the focal point of power. That is my point. I also understand that this site is flooded with kids who just want to cast a spell like they see in Harry Potter and such, but I also know that if someone who has no experience with the craft tries to cast a spell there are two possibilities: A. It fails to work B. It backfires with some very negative effects. So my central point was to not give into the stereotype that movies and novels such as Harry Potter portray, everyone should understand there is more to a spell than pointing a stick and saying a word in expectation that a fireball with fly out of it. The craft has dwindling numbers when compared to some of the other major religions of the world, and that will continue if newcomers find a site filled with spells, try one and it fails because they do not know how to properly perform said spell. That is why I want them to understand the true faith that is Witchcraft.
there are wizards on this site that does not mean we like harry potter or are anything about him wizards have been around for millenia has harry potter?
well i m glad to see positive feed back. and i get what y'all are saying because i take from each source of knowledge, albeit from religion books movies and i use it as i seem fit to. my first contact with wiccians and pagans were of the old school type. And stalker i can tell your old school . matter a fact my teacher is very old school. my problem with wiccians who are arrogant and fail to realize there are other methods of working magic and attack my way as being incorrect or false. The way of chaos is just as viable as wiccians are. i just want the same respect. and the kind ur talking about are these no good or evil and everyone's free to do what they want to me its like the Christianize form of Wicca. some sects have even disregarded the horned God altogether, and that is what irritates me
Im new here at this site and to wicca, and I do enjoy this site. I have been able to ask questions to others and they answer back with some good info. But as far as being able to read an article and learn just the basics I have not seen that, even really in my own coven. I live in an area where there arent any known covens to join so I kinda have to learn on my own. So it would be really really nice to have a teacher or at least have some article to read for beginners. I also would love to learn the old ways and new ways or all the different ways, that makes it a bit easier to make an informed decision. I of course am reading books, but then again not sure who is giving good info and who is not. So any kind of articles on history, how to's will all be good and very much appreciated. I hope Nightstlkr you do writes some articles for all of us beginners and just maybe post them in the article section or start a beginners section or something like that....my two cents for what its worth
Not all of us that practice magic are Wiccan I'm mostly a syncretist but I respect all gods and goddesses. In magic there
are many paths, if you are truly dedicated to Wicca there is plenty
of info available to you!!!
