Cleanse and protect apt.

A sticky, natural, hard drying catalyst such as tree sap or honey. After mixing thoroughly with your wand or athame, smear a small amount above each doorway from left to right, going diosil or clockwise for protection. The other way is for cleansing of negative energy. Make sure its out of site of the landlord like on the top of the jam or ledge. If there isnt one you can also smudge it onto an item you passed back and forth through the sage smoke/steam and put your intent into before hanging it in the entryway/window.

Living in an apartment with a hardline smoke detector myself this will come in handy. One way to get around burning incense is to use a steam inhaler with an essential oil blend close to the incense used.

Is what oils and amnt are safe for little ones and pets with the oils and humidifyer?

I just read something similar using water like that but infused with bay leaves on the stove. Then put in the water bottle to spray around for protection.

I like that better than saying burning sage.

Depends on what essential oils that you use around children Barbi, generally they shouldn't be used by children under 5 years old. Safe essential oils for children above 5 years of age are; lavender, camomile, marjoram and some others. I'll find a link for you later about the safety of essential oils. They should never be used around animals they are toxic to animals especially cats and dogs and also birds.

Floor sweep or washes. Even a "carpet sweep" can be used insead of smoking or steaming up the whole house. Just make sure you get it out of the house.

Thanks for the useful tip Barbi. I live in a house with very sensitive (and LOUD) smoke detectors. If I simply make toast they sound. My neighbours have a newborn and I have been concerned lately about them sounding when the little one is asleep. Thanks again.
