I use it every day for myself. I think that magic is something we are, not something we set aside or only use occasionally. Who told you that personal development wasn't helpful?

i never said it wasn't helpful. let me see if i can change the way i said it. should magick be helpful towards you? or should it be helpful towards others?

"bring magick back to the world where it once was"

I think it depends on your intentions if it is helpful towards you but you hurt someone else by doing so then I say no but if you hurt someone in self defence or it brings no harm yes I personally think spells that help others are always good unless your helping a theif bully ect

For your second question, I think both.

There's so much criticism out there about using magic for personal gain, but I'm uncomfortable around the martyr attitude too... it's taken for granted that "selfless" is automatically good, but I've seen people who never do anything for themselves actually do a lot of damage. Damage to themselves, from neglect; and to others, because when the way of thinking is always "not me" they tend to see their own problems in other people and try to solve them instead of looking into themselves. So they think they're helping, they're so sure of it, but it's actually manipulation (that isn't supposed to be good, either.)

I'm not saying that you did this, it's just that I knew too many "white" witches who are eviller than the ones who claim to be evil-- who preach compassion (but are really looking down on others,) or free will and individualism (but really think that the world would be better if everyone was exactly like them.)

If someone uses magic for shallow greedy reasons, or to develop themselves, or to help others, then that's the path they tread. I don't like to presume absolute "shoulds".

umm i know this isnt a forum for stories but this is how the casterland in my dreams started out.

Casterlands conflict

Long ago in the ancient nation of the caster lands, lived many races of magickal decent and religous faith. the main races were wizards and withches. wizards promoted the property of white and gray magick when it was needed, but the witches promoted black and gray magick.

Their were witches who believed in wizard ways and decided to use white magick, but they would use it whenever they wanted unlike the wizards. the other witches did not enjoy the white witches belief so a small conflict of witches erupted, curse spells were casted throughout the caster lands, causind a large scale of deaths and unfortunate events.

The wizards soon became troubled and decided to end the conflict between the witches. but for some strange and abnormal reason the conflict just suddenly stopped.

The great Sage of the caster lands had appeared before all races, large man wearing a gold and brown hooded robe stood in the center of the land, he spoke: "the first conflict has happened and ended, wizards and witches will no longer be the main races, two other races will be chosen in the future" all spell casters bowed down to the sage, and with a raise of the sages right hand, the entire land became empty. no life existed for one millenium, but where the sage once stood was a stone, written on the stone said "without war there is peace, those who are peaceful will become the main race, those of war will become the dominant race"

after one millenium, two races appeared arcanists, mages and warriors.
