I don't suppose you've ever thought that it was something as simple as this; You've been going through a lot in your world right now, and the demons were a symbol of your hardships. You're friends were there fighting along side of you because you feel connected to them. When you had overcome your demon (obstacle) you found the answer (key) to solving what you needed to (the door opening). The "world" could have been your own. Not literal.

The meaning of the dream is not relavent to demons or magic. It's best if you have a dream book. You can get one from borders for about $7.

Earth, air, fire, water, spirit. The 5 earthly elements. Universal elements are a bit different.
It's a possibility that this dream is simply play from your waking thoughts. It's a possibility this dream does translate into something, if that's the case, you have a good idea what it means. Or what you think it means. I can't say much more without an allusion to a "great war". All signs point to 12, but I will speak more of this in a PM, later.
