The thing is, light ain't good. It is honestly limited to believe it is purely good. Light blinds and reveals, darkness smothers and hides. Honestly, both have their own uses, and to call an energy good or evil, positive and negative when it is just itself...is silly. Lol. Are you good? Are you evil? In my view you might be evil, in yours you are good. But energy is an object, a tool. Guns aren't bad, people wielding the guns are good or bad. ;)
Demons are a mixture of light and darkness, not just one or the other. To feel that anything is one thing or the other denies the dualistic nature of the world. To see only one side limits oneself to knowing only half the story and never being able to see the bigger picture.
But hey what do I know? I like both light and darkness equally and use both in different instances. As for good and evil...I don't believe in either or. It is a purely human perception and the individual is the one who decides right and wrong, good and evil.

Oh, just to add, light and darkness are the same as the color debate. ;)
I see darkness as an absence of light, and light as an absence of darkness. - Balance. Everything comes down to balance in the end, and I believe to advance spiritually you need to be balanced between your good aspects and evil aspects. Embrace the evil, and embrace the good.

True true. But I would say embrace the light, embrace the darkness rather than the good and evil, or perhaps embrace the positive and the negative.
No offense to anyone here, but so many people forget or ignore the dualistic nature of the world in order to a) feel better about themselves, b) avoid "the consequences" of their actions, c) to follow the dogma of good or evil, and therefore light or darkness as the two are commonly tied together.
This is one of the many reasons why I dislike the color coding of magic, it claims that what is good is white magic, and what is bad is black, but in all honestly, you can cause help with black and harm with white. I don't put the color into the user's intent either because what is black to me is white to you, so in essence no one can ever say they do black magic because to them it is right and good.

Magic may not have a colour but intent does. this is the way I see it, it may not be the way you see it but that it's "my truth" and its the truth that guides me, you are free to follow your own truth which ever way you see fit.

Our truths are always changing, always evolving, always becoming something new and shiny...that is unless we allow ourselves to become static in our beliefs, and...I have found that that which stands still and doesn't change doesn't last long. Maybe that's why there is so much change in this time, to make up for the time when things have barely changed.
Color coding Magick was simply made to categorize.
It helps prevent different people with different intentions get mixed up. Don't put down something that you don't even fully understand.

Don't assume I don't fully understand something simply because you cannot see my point of view. ;)
I would like to say this, the colors go into different intents for a single color. As for not knowing...healing (white) done in a certain way can kill. You can have perfectly good intentions to help/save someone, but you can still kill them if you have no clue what you are doing. In the same aspect, if you do a death spell that is done to save someone from being beaten to death...is that black or white? Or how about a money spell done that causes a death? Or a love spell that accidentally causes obsession? Or I do a death spell on a person with cancer who wants to die?
The worst of things are caused by those with the best of intentions. To me, intent doesn't matter one bit, it is what you did and how you feel about it. If I did the money spell above, I would feel I killed someone and now have blood on my hands and it would haunt me. However, if I did the death spell, it wouldn't bother me one bit inside because I did what was right to me.
Intent isn't simply filed under one category or another, and results of that intent are just as if not more important than the original intent. Its the results you look for, not the intent you look for until after the events had already occurred. "Well, he meant good" doesn't change the fact someone is now dead by your hand. It is just one of those nicey nice "feel better about myself because I at least tried to do good" things, which is another reason I dislike color coding.
Also, where I would file black and white of the stuff I do at I would file them under grey because I don't see anything wrong in my actions both now and in the past personally, but others may find them wrong or offensive.
Binding, summoning, and others in general are placed under the black magic category. You can bind to protect yourself though, or summon to learn.
Please do not assume I am an idiot simply because I say I dislike color coding because of its misuse, nor because of its dualistic nature. It just annoys me to have to file what I feel I should not file, nor can file correctly.
*Picks up all the categories and shoves them into the grey/neutral category* Now I can say I agree with color coding. :P
