The issue is the fact I didn't break any rules, not my lack of reading them.I was asked a question, and I answered it and was gagged. And for "excessive caps" there were no excessive caps, just one word by pure accident, I even said excuse that, my capslock was on and I was gagged anyway.
It's the issue that I didn't break any rules and was gagged, not the fact I was gagged. If I had broken a rule I wouldn't care
At the risk of putting myself in harm's way over this issue, I must say that I agree to a point. First of all, the rules CLEARLY say not to use excessive caps...but the definition of excessive is more than necessary. When a person is making a point or speaking emphatically, and uses caps for one word, that does not under the general definition of the word deem excessive. There is nothing excessive about using all caps for one word in a sentence, especially when used for emphasis, considering that this is actually a common way in many languages to put into print that emphasis.
Second off, I do agree that there should be at least one warning issued by Mods as often times some of these more minor mistakes can be made (especially by newbies) without even being realized. Text speak is common and becomes habit for too many people making it very easy to type "u" instead of "you" without even realizing they are doing it. A warning to that effect would not hurt anyone. I'm not saying give multiple warnings or be "soft" on people, because as it is, rules ARE rules and we all agree to them, but because some of these mistakes can go unnoticed by the person who made them, it would just be reasonable to issue a warning first.
I, myself, was gagged for not changing the subject during a chatter. Everyone was discussing harming themselves, cutting, and anorexia, and things like that, and I began discussing a situation and I actually was warned by the mod to change the subject. A few other members were still responding to the last statement I'd made and I did not wish to be gagged, so I didn't say anything at first. After being told that I could talk to them anytime and that they were here for me etc, I finally decided to say "thankz that makes me feel less alone" and was gagged for not changing subjects although I did NOT bring up the subject, I simply wanted to say that I appreciated the others I had been talking to. I had been a member only less than an hour at the time. I didn't realize that comment would be taken as not changing the subject. I don't feel so much that it was unfair as it was confusing to me.
I have talked to many people, though, who have had multiple accounts due to being gagged without warning for minor infractions, such as writing one word in caps or even leaving the "g" off the end of a word, like hangin instead of hanging. I truly enjoy this site and all that it offers and I completely understand the need for rules in chatter. I don't want to step on anyone's toes, but I do wish that a warning could be issued prior to a gag in most instances. I do NOT, however, think that the rules should be changed or the Mods held liable. They are made Mods for a reason and instructed to abide by the rules listed and are only doing what they are told to do. It would just help everyone, especially newbies, if ONE warning were issued prior to gagging a member.

In the end it all comes down to reading the rules. There is a reason that you are supposed to read and agree to them before being able to access the chatter. In the end it is up to the mod to make the decision. Rashnu is correct though, you're lucky to get a warning since we aren't required. There really is no excuse for people who use text speak when you are meant to read the rules. If they were read properly we wouldn't get so many newbies coming in asking what text speak is after a warning. There is no excuse even for newbies when the rules are required to be read before participating in the chatter. Same goes for warnings. Warnings wouldn't be needed if the rules were followed. As for mistakes, I always try to double check my text before pressing enter. It's really not hard to follow the rules, I've never gotten gagged before or during my time as a mod and that can be said for a lot of people.

Either way, accountable or not, I agree that warnings need to be issued first. I've spoken to a few people here since the issue, and basically that seems to be the main problem: Gagging without warning. It does leave you confused, and in my case irritated, because I was following all rules to avoid a gag yet for whatever reason it happened anyway.
I still know my last gag was unwarranted, and nothing can be done about it, but it still shines a light on an issue.
Yes Kam, get off my site. You have not contributed a single spell, you have not contributed a single article. Your only forum posts have been to complain that you are not intelligent enough to read the rules.
Why is that so difficult to understand. You just want to complain about the rules and brag about websites you moderate, websites that have no visitors and therefore need no rules. If that is so much better than go there.
Get off this website. Plain and simple? Are you going to leave where you are not wanted or are you going to stick around on a website you find overly oppressive?
And if your definition of excessive caps is different than mine and you want to complain go with him/her/it.
The bottom line is that your stupidity, your ignorance, your inability to comprehend the simplest of rules does not give you any right to violate the terms of use you agree to by using this site.
Now go cry to your mommy that you are being treated like an adult.

- I hvae not seen proof of this. and i doubt any proof can be made of this.

-That doesnt take in account to the Other members who feel and have experienced this. I figure, Tell the rest of the people in the thread who agree with Kama this statement, instead of being focused on One.

-Its not about interpretation, its stating people sometimes make mistakes, and gagging shouldnt be the first step, on those.

-Wasnt her caps, as described, an accident? Plus that doesnt take in account for the others who have run into the same Problem.
Now go cry to your mommy that you are being treated like an adult.
that is the creator, owner and administrator of the site. His opinion is the only one that really matters when it comes down to it. I agree with him, why are you staying at a site that you find oppressive?

I agree with Kama and Kronos.
I dont think people that get gagged are purposly trying the break the rules. And i dont think the rules are an issues theyre acually good its just the excessive enforcing of them imo that i believe shes saying is the issue.
with that said, i stay here because Ive found a great deal of info on questions ive had for so long and people who take their craft very serious and willing to helkp anyone who asks.
so my solution is to simply not use the chat. its unfortunate because thats the place where you can find interesting topics to discuss and pm someone later if theyre willing to take that time to answer the questions you may have..
but i wouldnt call it oppressive. just strict which the mods dont seem to mind and they mod so.. i suggest just dont go into the chatroom
Mods would not have to be so strict if people just followed the rules. Giving warnings doesn't help much in the long run for people claim not to have seen them or claim they don't understand what mods are talking about.
If you do not like the way this free to be a member site is run, leave.
I am going to stay for the students I teach here. If you don't like it, suck it up. :D
Kam only has a lack of posts cause she just made that account after getting gagged, I thought that would've been easy to tell by the main post.
I'm here for the site, the moderation is god awful. Sites aren't that hard to manage, people. Free time is still available.
Pet will never have an open mind on this subject. In never expect him too.
