sometimes the stores that specialize in magic are the best to get them, but they dont have the same energy as ones straight from the earth. Some may be too young to mine though..so a store might be best.

I've made alot of wands and my favorite wood to use is Live Oak,
as far as crystals go Even though yours is man made the very essence of the chemicals that made go back to petroleum, which in turn goes back to the dinosaurs, as you see it is still within the realm of natural. I still suggest that you use a real one that you imbue with your energy in a consecrating and blessing ceremony.Hope this helps alittle, by the way most fruit and nut trees are great for wands, but before you take the branch ask for permission and give the tree an offering after.
Blessings and peace:

P.S. Get the branch before the fruit is setting on the tree.

You only need the dowel, a 'plastic' crystal won't work, the bottle if it has some oil left can be used to anoint the wand. Thats it......

I agree that with spellcaster, plastic isnt the best material to use for energy work. I prefer using original stones, I dont see the point in using fake crystals and stones. Each crystal or stone has specific properties and energy, which is why we use them in the first place, not because they're eye-candy. For healing purposes, many people leave certain crystals in a glass of water overnight and drink it first thing in the morning. It's called crystal therapy. However, I do understand that gems can be ridiculously expensive. In such a case, try and get your hands on the gem's raw or tumbled version. They're usually far more cost effective. For me, raw stones seem to work best.

I know a few people who have practised magic for years and have never used a wand, which in reality is merely a tool to direct your energy. Your finger can do the same job. And much against what Harry Potter shows, you cannot zap people with it and nor will you be able to shoot fire balls from it.

But if you and a sibling are playing cinderella and you need a wand for the fairy godmother, then the pencil and plastic will work :P
