I was talking to SilentSyren the other day and she told me about this topic of the month from a while ago, so I thought I would add my wedding story :D
So my husband and I met in December of 1997. We met in a weird bar and were introduced by a friend we both had in common.
Fast forward to New Years day (of 1997-98) 12:30 am he came to a party my roommates and I were having, but didn't get off of work until after midnight. I felt bad for him and started talking... we talked for 10 hours straight and only separated when we each had to go to work.
I was dating someone else when we met, and I broke up with him soon after meeting my husband, I just felt stronger towards my future husband and I refuse to cheat.
So about a month after meeting and talking on New years he moved into the apartment I had with a couple of roommates, and instead of moving into the room for him, he just moved into my room. We had a few really freaky months living there, but eventually we moved and changed apartments and roommates.
So fast forward to April of 1998, he and I were hanging out and received a flier from the local Renaissance Faire, and it was advertising hand fastings. I looked at him and said "You wanna get married at the Ren fair?" and he smiled and said "Yes!".
About two months later, May 31st, 1998, we got married at the Renaissance Fair.
We originally wanted to get hand fasted, but the ordained minister we wanted to do it couldn't,so we made it a non denominational wedding. We jumped the sword and broom and had dulcimer playing in the background that I couldn't even hear I was so amped. The thing I liked best that the minister said was "If there is anyone who has any objections, may they forever hold their peace".
We had our ceremony on a little man made island in the middle of the faire and had a procession from the may pole to the island, everyone shouting "God save the bride and groom!", lol so fun!
We separated in the morning so neither of us would see each other in the actual outfits.
My parents were very against us getting married, we had only known each other like 4 months before we decided to get married and I was 21 years old. When I called my mom with the news so she could hear it first, I was hung up on.
I wore a white embroidered Renaissance era dress and he was dressed for the era too, he was so handsome and I swear was glowing in a soft gold light when I saw him :)
Our rings were bands we found at a jewelry store in the mall, lol and we got what we could afford, white gold bands with yellow gold flowers around the band. At our 10 year anniversary we re did our vows and exchanged different rings that were the ones we would have gotten if we could have afforded it when we were first married. I now wear a white gold thin band with three princess cut diamonds in a row on it :)
Neither of us had groomsmen or bridesmaids. I totally did the something blue (blue garter belt), something old (my grandmother's pearls) something new (my dress) and something borrowed (again the pearls).
At our reception, which was small like the wedding, we had our first dance to a song his grandfather sang in the 1930-1940's that we had a copy of.
We ended up going to Hawaii for our honeymoon, which my parents gave to us (lucky us!).
So all that was over 18 years ago and he is still my best friend, my truest companion, and if the love in my heart had a shape, it would be in the form of him
