I have had 6 years of experience summoning spirits of all different nature and origin. I would be willing to teach you and share my own personal library with you.
hmm... it seems like this topic went off track really quickly! ... it also seems like i am a little behind the gun on finding it. but I thought I might offer some ideas anyways just in case they prove to be helpful.
As far as resources and information I am not personally familiar with any books dedicated to the subject, but many modern books on magic and magical paths usually have some sort of mention or process for things like communicating with spirits or calling a deity to work with, or to call a spiritual guide or guardian. Many of those processes are by principle a summoning just tailored to a specific entity.
Truth be told if one wants to get nitpicky, the act of calling the corners is in effect also a summoning process. At each corner the object is to call out to an entity or deity for their presence and assistance in watching over that particular elemental gateway.
As far as the mechanics and basic process itself, there are a few fairly well defined steps involved in a proper and safe calling. Each step can be performed in a number of ways, so when putting together an attempt just reflect on the processes and symbols you are familiar with and lay them out to where they match up with what you are trying to do.
1) start with contemplation; Always besure that you are honest in intent and aware of what precisely you are looking for. Do not just decide on an entity you want to reach, but also why and what you hope to gain from the experience. understanding your intent precisely will help to guide how you present yourself in the spell, and can affect the wording you use when you speak out. For example there is a subtle but specific difference between calling forward a guide versus a guardian. Even when calling for a deity to be present, some have multiple ways of expressing themselves or multiple roles they fulfill. Be aware of not just what god you want to contact but what aspect of that god as well.
2) Research the entity fully. be careful to gather or make any offerings you may require. As a note, regardless of success or failure in your attempt it is still good practice to leave the offering behind. So whatever you chose to offer be prepared to lose it as when you are done, it will effectively no longer belong to you.
3) Create a sacred and protected space; Think of it as setting up a board room for a business meeting. You want to decide on an area that will be used for the working so that you can ensuer it will be safe and clean both physically and spiritually.
4) create a doorway or bridge outward towards the spiritual planes and create a method of guidance to lead the desired entity to you. The most basic symbol is a candle, representing a beacon or guiding light. use that guiiding light to send out your request.
5) lay out the goal and rules of the summoning. Declare who you are calling, why, what you hope to gain, what will be offered, and what will or will not be allowed to occur duing the meeting. it sounds like a lot to say but it can actually usually be summarized in one or two sentences. such as "I ask for you to come in peace to my presence, to share in knowledge and to leave in peace upon the snuffing of this guiding light." ...This is also when you would place any offerings outside of your sacred space as a gift to the entity.
6) When finished; declare the summoning as over, and verbally dismiss the entity in a thankful manner. ('Go in peace' is usually effective.) Similarly declare the overall ritual as concluded, open your sacred space, and physically move any offerings to an appropriate location where they may be left behind. Such as a natural setting like at the foot of a tree or lightly buried. Don't take it home with you because you no longer own it.
7) If the entity you called for is one known to be particularly ornery or mischievous, do a formal cleansing of yourself and your living space and reinforce that you hae now gone your separate ways.
