I began practicing May 2009 and came out later that summer. I grew up in a Christian community, and the church I went to while I was still in school was not a very merry place. I suffer from depression and schizophrenia, and turned to the church for help. They judged me for my mistakes ("Sins" in their words) and told me that I have the devil living in me because of my mental issues and my appearance.
After a while, they shunned me and my family from their group.
I found Wicca later on, I heard about it before but never really had much information on it. I decided to start studying it, I loved everything about it. And the Craft has done wonders in my life, I really don't know where I would be without it.
Coming out was actually better than I thought it would be. I was seriously nervous about telling my family. What I did was wrote up a report like thing and gave it to my parents to read. They accepted it completely.
I did lose a few good friends, including my girlfriend of two years. That was difficult but I'm happy with where I am going and if people don't accept that I guess its their loss.
I was one of the lucky ones with coming out, I've heard of many who had a hard time with parents and family for practicing. I'm very thankful my parents and loved ones are so supportive.
I know how you feel I used to belong to a church group when I was in High School when Turn to Wicca they found out about it and starting to tell people at school not to talk to me but I got even I told them that if they do that again I will knock them down They Haven't bothered me since
I am glad you are standing up for what you believe in
My mom and dad both think I'm a devil worshipper and refuse to talk with me about it, when I lived in their house (even though I was an adult)I wasn't allowed to have any witch paraphenelia in the house, cast spells, ect. Lucky thing I found my red-headed step sister (lol) living down the road from me!

For me it was fairly easy my Mom was very open and my dad well he just doesn't belive me about it. Nevertheless I find when most people come out they get alot more resistence then I ever did. As for my friends well a good chuck of them ether were Wicca or already knew about it. So that was even easier then my parents and finally as for co-workers. I have a stricked no religion in work for very good reasons.
I need help about it too. I'm in a religious group, and I'm afraid that if I tell, I will have to quit and my friends will turn on me. I still believe in the same god, I just also love magic.
My parents found my Internet history and were angry at first, but they've accepted it and sometimes even make jokes! LoL I'm still in the broom closet to my friends, but at least I don't need to hide as much at home now :)
For me it was quite hard to be honest, it be years to be my true self. I was raised by my mother who is a Christian. My father is Pagan but we were not close. as I did not meet him tillI was 25 years old. For a while I was in a very demanding church, they were very controlling, now i look back it was like a cult. I seen spirits, auras, connected with angles etc from a very early age. I even remembered a past life & at the age of 4 years old horrified my mother by saying "I'm a witch" anyway years of begin taken off to the pastor for exorcism as begin able to speak to spirit people was *evil* I was constantly told I was communicating with Satan & send them away! I cast a few spells growing up, naturally even knew how to cast a circle. A few years ago I started studying Wicca & found myself. I'm a proud Wiccan! When asked what's your religion? I will say the oldest. Are your a witch? i ask them what do they believe a witch is? If they believe it's some who runs around the field naked, worshiping the devil, them no! I am honest about my religion those who don't like it, then don't like me, simples. If they can't accept I'm Wiccan then to me, there not accepting me! My family have been fine about it now, Shockley! The only family member who does not know is my Nan. My mom has mellowed as she's got older & untreated in know more about Wicca.
I would never say this to my family, ther're kind of religious and they will never understand me, but anyway, I came out to one of my best friends and she told me " You're freaking weird, but we're still friend!":)) and it was kind of funny, I guess..
