From my expierience with wands, ebony is great for moon magic. It is associated with nienna, the Celtic goddess of memory and mind. Iys great for those operations that seek to banish, dissolve, disapparate or cast off evil or outworn influences. I have found that enscribing phrases in ogham on it increases it's power greatly. It is very dense so I have found it useful in grounding kundalini energy and opening my root chakra.

I believe ebony alone in not good for a wand.. co'z its very unyielding, and hard to work with. you must pair it with willow, alder, ash, hawthorn or black thorn (farnesiana).
one of my wands has an ebony handle but the wand it self is alder and walnut halves.

You have to realize that this is a personal preference. Others may work the best with Ebony wood.

yes but, I am just stating the facts about the wood, and you can even check this. ebony is not often use as a wand wood but just as a handle.. but if he wants an ebony wand.. who am I to keep him? all am doing is suggesting and imparting some facts that I posses..

Oak is pretty good for masculine type energy. I myself do not do much work with physical tools but i can tell you any wood you feel right is right. Just because someone says it is good does not mean so.
