The idea would work, but think more of the sword as empowered with a protection of offense (such as envisioning them being shoved/thrown back forcefully with a burst of energy if they come at you). Since you don't have knowledge of how to fight with a sword, a sword alone will do very little good, but when you astral project, carrying it at your side will serve as a "shield" of sorts that can protect you from malicious spirits. Shields are defensive protections, swords are offensive protections.

Remember, spirits don't "die", you cannot "kill" them. Usually attacking them and harming them just make them angry, and they return for revenge. But when they can't attack you, they usually give up and search for an easier target.

The 'astral' realm is NOT a game. Demons there 'cannot' be slain (they just get ANGRY) Do you know 'how' to fight with a sword ? Do you know of any 'real' protection things/spells/amulets ? Demons 'can' possess you in the astral.....

Well Jeese Louise Mr. Cranky pants. You didn't have to hurt my feelings by being so blunt about it D': , it was a burst of inspiration is all. That might have been inspired by a video game...but whatever :/. It's not like I would go charging towards a herd of deamons swinging my sword going "ya want some of THIS!". I would only fight if i had to (and yes i do know a bit about swords). i kno you cant literally slay a deamon, it just sounded cooler the way I said it. If I had to fight, I would just probably drive them back as much as I could, to run off somewhere else. The sword was more of a symbol to me than a weapon anyway. When I think protection, I imagine a sword, it would have served more as a shield than a sword really. But I think swords are cooler than shields :p thats just my opinion. And one more thing, do try and be a bit nicer in the future, hurting people's feelings will get you nothing but a face full of karma.

by 'jumped by a demon' you mean possessed or attached. personally i haven't heard of either, but it's a very good idea to protect yourself. yes, a demon in the astral can attack you, and i'm sure it does happen, but i don't know of any possessions.

lol no offense meant to you or whiterayn BUT I thought you wanted 'good' advice ? The astral is not a 'place' to be how did you put it 'cool'. I merely said what it true about it. Is truth now to be 'sugarcoated' so that those who don't know can do what you suggest and then be 'really' hurt by the 'actual' things that reside there ? All you had to do was ask ' how do I deal with this or that then ? ' If 'attempting' to give you 'actual' advice of how to deal the the realness of the place is offensive then I won't respond to these kind of posts. My bad then people

I took no offense spellcaster, I very rarely take offense to anyone online. I was merely stating you could have worded it in a nicer way. In truth, you just reiterated what I already wrote, but in a more demeaning way.

Unbalanced, there is a problem with your idea that no one has brought up. If you decide that the sword is an ethereal item SEPARATE from your body, you risk it turning into a familiar and gaining individuality. I have never actually experienced this, but I take great care to ensure that this sort of thing doesn't happen with my wand (I know it's a little paranoid, but I still worry). Whenever you just put your energy into something, you need to be careful. I would recommend "keeping" the sword with you whenever possible. The sword should be an extension of your essence, not something that you just charge up and leave.
