very informative thank you for wrghing this i have 1 question though in the section on how to make it you say stay away from sea salt is epson salt a good substertute or can you recommend another type of salt. thanks again for this article very well done.

I would not recommend Epsom salts, as technically they are a magnesium sulfate, rather than a sodium sulfate or sodium chloride. Average table salt works, however you might look into using kosher table salt as it tends to be more pure. If you buy the cheap stuff, you should sift it first, because sometimes instead of salt, you find small black materials. Just male sue whatever you get is not iodized salt.

On the subject of Himalayan pink salt (a salt formed by an ancient sea), while it is not true to the chemical compositions, you could use it as it is a pure source, and not directly from the sea. I actually use a salt lamp made of this on my altar, and I have yet to get a complaint. I use it as a space to represent someone before I place them in with the others, and while I am working with them. (My general altar for the Kemetic gods is on several levels.)

You actually made me think of this afterward. You can use sink water if you like, but sometimes when it evaporates, it can leave behind impurities. I recommend distilled water. Even spring water cains other things than just good old H2O.
