I don't think the right for gays to marry will ever be accepted by the federal government. I believe that in the years to come an amendment will pass granting civil union status to any two people who chose to be in a civil union together. This will be a compromise between both sides. The conservatives will keep marriage between a man and a women, however the government will no longer give rights to just married couples but it all civil unions. This will mean that everyone will have the right to tax breaks, health care, and spousal privileges. It is going to take some time but we need to come to a compromise instead of fighting each other about it.
Heres how I look at it. The whole point of sex, dating, MARRIAGE and all of the stuff we do to look attractive, all boils down to reproduction. Its a simple equasion really.
If getting married falls under the category of reproduction of the human race, than there's really no point, since a girl cant have a baby if she has sex with another girl.
And just as a quick question...Are you gay/Bi?
On top of that, if we went under a whole mini war in CA, AR, and FL, people who DO get gay marriages will probably suffer from descrimination by some other people. Verbally or Psysically.
Someday it will be excepted, in my opinion, its just like how racism was unethical. The only REAL reason why gays/lesbians arent aloud to marry is because of other peoples religious beliefs. Well, christianity is only going to be the country's main religion over population for a set amount of time. The peoples religions will shift and hopefully kids wise up to their parents and tell them what they believe and not what they are forced to believe, I can probobly bet you that around half of the people 'born' into religions actually believe what they are taught, but thier sub-concious just thinks it's true because they heard it over and over and over again. Thats how my family was, we were all Catholic, everyone one of us, until I decided I would choose my fate and I became Wiccan, I really dont care what my parents think and i dont care about thier approval, they gave birth to you, but they do not own you as a person. So as soon as people start practicing what they truely, truely believe, they will be happier and be more respectful and tolerant of others wishes. The only reason this country needs a president is to keep things sane and in order, we don't need somone to tell us who we can spend the rest of our lives with.
I can't remember which way I voted. My religion is against same sex marriage, as a patriot and firm believer in freedom I support it, as a straight guy who can't help but be disgusted by gay acts I don't. The end result is that I really just don't care either way. I would be a bit insulted and I would believe that our freedom of religion is being trampled on if the government tries to force preachers who are against it to marry same-sex couples, but I'm not about to complain if anyone who supports it decides to marry them.
