I don't dance in front anyone but me and my Gods. The Gods love to be entertained from what I learned, it's all about your good intentions and enjoying the moment. If anyone looks at you while you are in the moment of a ritual and enjoying your time, they are not worthy of your presence. If you can, just find a place of comfort where you can be alone or go in your room close and lock or budge the door shut if you can and play some music you like and just have at it. But, if you really do not want to then you do not have to. Even though I cannot really teach but if you'd like you may message me and I can share some advice if you'd like. :)

I dance to get into the trances I achieve, but my dancing isn't a planned out pretty kind of dance. It's often eratic, rhythmic, fast paced, and tiresome. I use gestures involving my volva stav to create a beat while I'm dancing, and then I use the beat to get into the altered state I need.
Ok wicca1 :), and personified that's really awesome. I do try to plan out my dances, idk I have a problem with planning everything lol, but then when the music begins I will literally forget a move which will make me freeze for a moment and then I'll eventually just go along with the beat, I am still new at dancing but I did realize in the last time how much more thrilling it was to just move without thinking and it felt like great ecstasy once I was finished. I do believe that was the best ritual I had performed by doing so. ^.^

Dancing has always been a part of witchcraft,in all its various forms, all over the world! Dancing, especially to certain types of music (even just a drum beat) has been used to induce a "Trance-like state". It has been used by many cultures; often before going into battle. And such as the Native American "rain dances".
So, keep on dancing, to whatever music appeals to you. It is all part of The Craft.
In the book "Advanced Magick for Beginners" by Alan Chapman, he gives an exercise where you create a dance, and then associate your desire with the dance, turning it into a kind of physical sigil. You then dance that way for 10 minutes, or until you collapse from exhaustion. I haven't tried it yet, but I plan on it.
I use dance as a large part of my practice. It can be used to raise or ground energy, as a form of meditation, to help induce trance, even just to get your mind in the right direction before a working/spell. It just depends on what works for you.
I couldn't dance to save my life when I started. Being overly conscious of how you look makes it a lot less effective. So if that is an issue, I suggest practicing alone with your favorite music cranked up. I would clear a room and put on a sleep mask. It helped me to get into the rythem easier and focus less on appearance. However be careful as it is disorienting *bumps into every furniture corner* xD

Dance has long been part of magical practice. It is one of the "Eight Paths of Power". Dance does not have to be fancy or even beautiful. It is the movement of the body that helps raise the energy to use in spells or rituals. I would highly recommend the DVD " Devotional Dance: Sacred Movements for Meditation and Transformation with T. Thorn Coyle " as giving some wonderful instruction on how to go about incorporating dance in your magical practice.
For Me dance is workship and I also think that there are many benefits of dance.
