For those who voted yes on prop. 8 in CA, AR, and FL, you should be ashamed of yourself!!!! For the parents who voted yes on 8, I hope your kids turn out gay/lebian and want to get married one day and when they ask why can't they, you can say it's your fault they can't you took that freedom away from them. Those who voted no, thank you, thank you so much for trying to make a difference, for trying to get equal rights for all.
Tolerance is a funny word hey?
So is respect and acceptance.
Tolerance means that you will "tolerate" something to some extent, you have a limit to what you tolerate, and it's a word that represents that you regard the tolerated party as inferior to yourself, as if that they wanted something and you will only do it for them because "you're nice".
Respect is when both parties acknowledge each other, yet they usually hold a grudge of some sort that they keep within themselves. They uphold their values, yet it's very similar to tolerance, though it is not the same.
Acceptance is when you "Accept" something, like a Government accepting refugees, you accept, but you also are the dominant force in the acceptance relationship.
Why SHOULD we tolerate such prejudice and unfairness?
This is such a let-down after yesterday, with the promise of definite change still an exciting novelty in the minds of the Americans.
Do they actually think that this will in some way STOP gay relationships?
Well, my opinion: marriage is over-rated. Couples can be just as happy WITHOUT a set of legal documents PERMITTING them to be as an accepted norm by society.
Then it's just an everlasting betrothal :)

Yep. It's unfair. Gay couples should have every right to be married and experience a bitter ugly divorce. I don't disagree with it. But this subject will not be so easily resolved. Why? Because you are asking people not only to change their minds, but go against their religious beliefs. THAT is also unfair if you step out of your "open-minded" box and look at it from another persons point of view.
Many many arguements against gay marriage is that it's not the will of God. It goes against the majority of peoples in this countrys religion. Is it right? For you, no. For them, yes. Who are you to tell them their religious beliefs are wrong? That makes you no better than them telling you that a gay life style is wrong.
There is no middle ground. I doubt there will ever be, unfortunatly. But let me give you a quick history and government lesson.
Even if Prop 8 passed, it's still not a recognized marriage anywhere else but the few other states that allow it. Why? The federal government passed a law in 1996, signed by the lovely Bill Clinton (a democrate mind you, who hooted and hollered that he did such a great job with the defense of marriage act ) that no marriage recognized by one state need be recognized by another. FURTHERMORE, the FEDERAL government may not treat same sex relationships as marriage for any purpose, even if recognized by the state.
What does that mean? It means that while a state may say " yep, you're married" the federal government, who takes precident over state law, will still not recognize it.
Prop 8 being turning the way it did is a sad thing. I think the revenue gay marriage rights would have generated would have made more people want it if nothing else, but it didn't.
And sorry to say, had gay marriage been allowed there, it is still not actually considered a marriage.
You want equal rights for gays? Take it up with washington and have the defense of marriage act changed. Until then....no matter what propositions are passed or denied....it will never be equal.

Well I planned on having a handfasting ceromny because of my religion and personal choice, but I would still love to get married one day just to rub it in people's faces, well the ones who voted yes on 8 :D
