i was wondering if it's possible to bind an element or energy to a sword, knive, etc.?

You don't bind an element. You can use the elements to charge the tool/weapon.

how do you do that?

It's pretty simple. Al you need to do is get a feel for the particular Elements energy and then fill the item with the energy. Or another way of doing it is filling yourself with the energy and then putting it into the item, although this may taint the energy with your own.
