I just wondered how people are feeling about the recent "news" of a 13th sign. I find it especially interesting since I was born on the 10th of December. Are horoscopes for Ophiucans going to be mass media available now? Do you all buy into the change in dates and signs and what it may mean? Just want to hear what people have to say on this subject...
I was going to make a post about this too. I don't really know why they are adding a 13th sign, something about how the earth's axis shifted but I think that just becuase the earth is in a different position it doesn't mean we need a 13th sign.
Yeah this doesn't make sense to me or any of my friends either. I feel like scientists are truly doing too much at this point. :)
And I've even heard some people mention this as "yet another sign of the end"
Really? I think not..
This is not a new sign to the zodiac.
It has been there for a long time and was removed.
It is the serpent bearer and serpents have been seen in many different cultures as a bad omen.
And it was also not long enough to be an actually zodiac sign.
The astroNOMical dates of the Zodiacs have changed and are always changing; this has been known since 500BC. Ophiunchus and the new dates are not new discoveries.
However.
The astroLOGical dates have not changed at all. The stars are markers that drift, but our main points of reference are not directly the stars. They are the equinoxes (both spring and vernal) and the solstices which altogether make the four cardinal points of the Zodiac which in turn determine the signs. The stars help us locate those points which define the signs of the Zodiac which remain constant in relation to the equinox point. The constellations do indeed move about and we take that into consideration when locating planets. Ophiuchus is the 13th member of the Zodiac and is used in calculations by astrologers. Astrologers are not changing astrology! These "new discoveries" have been known for hundreds of years!
In conclusion, all of this hype that's been going on lately about new Zodiac dates and Ophiuchus is sort of a false alarm. The astronomical dates of the Zodiac constellations have indeed changed, but the astrological reference points have not changed one bit. The Zodiac dates are based on the yearly solstices and equinoxes, not actual star location. Astrology is not changing. The original Zodiac dates remain the same. You are still the Zodiac sign you were born with.
The Tropical Zodiac (the one we all familiar with) is based off of the vernal equanoxes and is based off of the sun's position on the planet, rather than being based off of the actual positions of the constellations in accordance to birth (and other activities).
The Sidereal Zodiac (the one which is older, and made by the Mayans) is the zodiac which is actually based off of the positions of the stars in accordance to events on Earth. This is the zodiac which features the thirteenth house (sign) of Ophiuchus.
Take me for example. I'm a Tropical Leo (Sun sign) and a Sidereal Cancer. Does this mean that I am simply Cancer and no longer a Leo? Of course not! If you have been reading the articles like I have, I could see how you would believe that it is a change, rather than a simple aspect almost no one knew about. The only change is that the Sidereal Zodiac has been brought to attention. It is not a farse, a joke, or some madman's imagination. It is something as ancient and valid as other topics in metaphysics and Magick.
