Does it really matter if you consider yourself a witch or wizard or whatever, based on your gender? im a boy and i really like the term witch so thats what i consider myself. What do you guys think?
By following the magick of the craft (witchcraft) really you are supposed to be called a witch. But you can call yourself anything you want its what you consider yourself personally.
Technically, there is a difference, but the slang word "witch" would suffice for both sexes, in America. Over in England, or in Europe, in the places where English is spoken, when speaking English, people mention that wizard is male and that witch is female, of witchcraft.
But in the innermost groups of witchcraft, witchcraft is called the Craft, or the Akasha, or the Force, and the term "witch" is usually used interchangeably for either sex(es), but not quite. It really depends on where one is from. There were references for all this, but I would ask a "witch" that was born into the Craft, and I would ask all witches from many places. I would try asking a person from England, especially, because I believe England to be the place where the Craft was seeded, for a while, before its kind was spread throughout the world. I will give you a heads up, witchfawn, I think that stronger forms of witchcraft are practiced over in England, to this very day. With that said, I would pay close attention to what Brits have to say about the Craft, or any Brit. Granted, there are many forms and styles of magic, and they all work. But truly, there is no place like London.
This is a big generalization, but in America, I think most of the people have this misconception that witches are fables, who were old women that lived out in the middle of the country. The truth is that witches are regular, yet refined Pagans, who may look just like any other person. Witches come in all shapes and sizes. Some look mainstream and some look witchy. ;)
Yeah, in America, I would call myself a witch also. Right on! I also think it is the best way to describe yourself to others because I think most people in America aren't familiar with the term "wizard." Mentioning wizard to them may leave people thinking that you practice alchemy. Lol!
I thought I gave you this long speal so that I could introduce you to more doors, and so that you could possibly learn more. I always like to see new witches come into the Craft. Cool, witchfawn, you are a musician that's great! Welcome, call this your initiation. Lol. Have fun, learn and prosper.
eloff. I live in England, and was born here. I have been a witch for over sixty years, and I can assure you that the word "wizard" is not meant to be a male witch. It is a term of derision! Harry Potter would be referred to as a wizard. The name has more to do with the theatrical Illusionist, than a witch. The type who wears a conical hat and robes covered in "mystical signs". Even the word Warlock means nothing to a real witch!
I wouldn't dream of wearing a "robe", or a hat, or waving a wand about. I do not have a wand; and most of my rituals are performed naked. I am not a wizard. I am a male witch.
