Good day lovely ladies and distinguish gentlemen please i would like to know the difference between a witch and a magician, cause many around here takes the name Witch as a title,i thought practicing of magic makes you a magician not a witch.
A witch is someone who uses real magick, while a magician is the title given to a performer who uses stage magic. The difference is that stage magic is just all illusions, while the magick that witches use is very real, it sends energy out in the universe to make changes in their life or in the life of another.
The distinction is this: a magician is a pure practitioner of magic while a Witch is a practitioner of Magic but with a more religious/spiritual inclination.

Magician used to be a wise user of magic; such as the Biblical "Magi",and so is a witch. But over the years, the word magician has become much more associated with "conjuror", or "illusionist". Really the word magician is a bit derogatory now, which is a shame, but it is due to the changes that often occur in language. It is much like saying that Wicca is a religion, and witchcraft is merely a Craft. It doesn't make sense to me; I was a witch long before Wicca was ever heard of, and it was (and still is) my religion.
It is a peculiarity of the English language, it changes over time. The word "gay" meant happy when I was young; no longer!
Mr brysing i understand you,but a witch and a magician is different..Here in nigeria you would see on magazines advertisement of some magicians claiming to have the power to get hold of witches.Atimes you would also see confessions of some people who claimed to be witches saying that they were initiated and were made to cause pain and sorrow to people.just google it:True confession of witches in Nigeria.
Well, I am a "High Magician" and the difference would probably be to my knowledge the core values and types of techniques. I read in a book once that "A magician always knows the outcome of his works if he does not know the outcome then he downgrades into a sorcerer" No offense to all the sorcerers out there but that is what was said in the book of Franz Bardon. A high magician uses more of a ritual type form of magick while a witch does the "flexible" type of casting. High magick is formal, Low magick is natural. High magicians like me want to focus more on the spirit rather than the physical plane while witches wan't to achieve things in the physical plane. High magick avoids spell casting while Low magick is pure spell casting while Low magick is pure spell casting as well as a bit of rites. You could get the same results but different methods.
@Sion: You are wrong, magicians devote themselves to spirituality more than witches do (believe what you will). The entire purpose of the Ceremonial/Ritual magician is to commune with the Divine source of all such as the study of the Kabbalah, Spiritual Alchemy, etc. Feel free to research more on the subject. Some people are just basing the opinions in which they have by the name of the title. "Don't judge a book by it's cover" Trust me. High Magick is dangerous but Low magick is also useful. High magick= Magicians. Low Magick= witches. Low magick is fast while High magick takes a lot of time.
I disagree with zelator, I believe sion is right. Only because that was the sense of the word i use. But, the word has many meanings. It all depends who you ask, neither is right or wrong.
