An Interesting Encounter

Tulsa is not a bustling metropolis. By many accounts it's a "medium-sized market." Still, a far cry from a crossroads in the middle of miles of empty nothingness. Last night, as I was driving past the Promenade Mall at 41st street and Yale, a fox ran across 4 lanes of traffic in front of my car. As a courtesy to all lost and wandering animals, I honked at it. Perhaps the experience will make it more wary of settled areas, and I may prevent it from getting run over by a car. It's just a theory. Apparently, about 10 years ago, a friend of mine saw one cross the street in the middle of the night around the downtown area of Tulsa. I guess there are foxes prowling the streets at midnight.

Later, I reflected on the encounter. Since I do claim some shamanistic tendencies in my eclexia, I thought it fitting to look up some of the qualities associated with the fox as a totem or spirit guide. The results were actually kind of telling.

Each aspect I found is something at which I'm more than moderately skilled. At one point, one of my nicknames was "gorilla," because apparently despite being big and hairy gorillas can presumably disappear into their surroundings. I didn't know this, and wasn't really fond of the nickname. I earned that monicker one night by repeatedly disappearing from amongst a group of friends and some other guys from the neighborhood who were around the same age. Several minutes would go by before they even noticed I was gone and came looking. Still to this day, I can extricate myself from a situation or environment with little to no notice.

All that pointless bragging to say this: foxes are associated with camouflage, shapeshifting, adaptation, and cunning. I'm like "hey, I'm in dere!" Being associated with an animal known for out-thinking and out-maneuvering its opponents: win. Being associated with the name of a cable "news" network: phail. Meh. I'll take it.

lol, thanks. I've never seen a fox that wasn't behind a fence in a zoo or something. So to see one out on its own (in the middle of a city no less) was pretty impressive.

By the way, Morrigan. Have you read anything on the fox on this site? http://www.shamanicjourney.com/article/6018/fox-power-animal-symbol-of-camouflage-quick-wit-cunning-agility-magic

Alternately go to shamanicjourney.com and nav from there.
