Wand help?

Hey everyone! I have a wooden wand that I received from a tree outside and I was wondering how long it take for it to start decomposing (or if it will at all, I'm unsure lol). Also, is there a way to prevent this?

if you take the bark off and add cooking oil to it it will be preserved for years
