Onmyji (, Onmyji? "On'yji") was one of the classifications of civil servants belonging to the Bureau of Onmy in ancient Japan's ritsuryo system. People with this title were professional practitioners of onmyd.

Onmyji were specialists in magic and divination. Their court responsibilities ranged from tasks such as keeping track of the calendar, to mystical duties such as divination and protection of the capital from evil spirits. They could divine auspicious or harmful influences in the earth, and were instrumental in the moving of capitals. It is said that an onmyji could also summon and control shikigami.

Onmyodo is for otakus.

For otakus? That's awful blunt. Just because its Japanese only otakus can be interested in it? Personally, I think it looks very interesting. I've often asked kami for their blessings in rituals, and I always get potent results when I do. So before writting off any school of magic as 'for this or that' you might want to look into it. This looks really interesting to me, I plan to look it up.
