a staff is a tool that i do use sometimes. I'd say make one. There's a lot of powerful symbolism in the staff. The middle pillar, the world axis, the spine/support, a symbol of authority, higher guidance, the list goes on and on.
So find a piece of turquoise and a nice piece of oak, set the stone and then carve the branch and sand it or whathaveyou.
how do you set the stone. and where do i get tourqoise. it is not naturally found where i live, it's just that i have an extreme connection to it's energy
well i'd either glue/beeswax it or fix it into a notch in the staff somehow. Turquoise may not be native to your area, but it's not horribly expensive if you can find a shop that sell stones or other metaphysical stuff. best of luck
You have to remember that a staff in the hands of someone that doesn't know how to use it is just a stick. Like anything it is a tool so the level of 'power' is has is proportional to the power you give it.
You say you have held one before and it felt powerful to you so sounds like you have an affinity to this sort of tool and if nothing else it will help you to focus your power.
Your best bet as PeyoteCoyote said is to make one. For the stone you will find them in any store that sells magick items and the cost is only down to the size of the stone. For the wood I would ask you don't go hacking at trees, remember to be respectful and ask before you take and treat the wound after.
Any item you make yourself will have a better connection for you and the time and focus you put into it will be reflected in how well it works for you.
the time i held the staff, was when i was young. it was my aunts. i can use a wand but i can't focus much of my power through it. can't i just buy one somewhere?
You can and there is nothing wrong with that at all but just make sure you are getting what you want. A lot of things purported to be made of oak and such are not. The only ones I have seen have also been very expensive and more ornamental than anything else.

A staff's power can only be charged by you for instance when you put your thoughts into something with true intentions then you will be able to charge something to a greater intensity, sure the wood and crystals or stones help but they don't have the true power it's you and the staff could have been precharged by someone that knew what they where doing or by someone that was quite adept at charging or sending thought power into an object plus the object will only be as powerful as you want it to be
