I just baught scott cunnighams book called book of shadows. Im super excited to read it! Did anyone read it? This is my first scott cunnigham book. I heard hes very good....
ny thoughts? :)
blessed be everyone
I have not read that one, but I have a couple of his others. He is a good author and is very detailed in his explanations. I practice magic differently so I don't use most of the rituals as they are in the books but they are good references. I hope you enjoy it. You might also like D.J. Conway, she has some very good books as well. I really like her writing.
Hi jadian :) i actually also purchased a tarot card deck with an instructional book called *the celtic dragon* by d.j conway :) so im happy you mentioned that shes good:)
im a begginer and fascinated by the world of magic and trying to take in all the information i can right now. I LOVE going to the metaphysical shop in my city i feel like a 4 year old at toys are us everytime i go there and i feel the positive energy of the store that males me feel like every cent i spend there will come back to me multiplied :)
Another good Scott Cunningham book is one of his other ones called "Magical Herbalism: The Secret Craft of the Wise" from the Liewellyn's Practical Magick Series, I love this one. You can also check out, if you like, "Moon Magick" by D.J. Conway, "The Witches Way: Principles, Rituals and Beliefs of Modern Witchcraft"by Janet and Stewart Farrar, and anything by Raymond Buckland is good also.
D.J. Conway is not an author that I would recommend to anyone. Her books are poorly written, full of misinformation, and generally not well thought of. I'd avoid spending my money on them when there are much better books available.
lol i have Cunninghams Book of Shadows [i was tempted to turn it into a drinking game the number of times they used excerpts from his other works] it's a good sampler book, i think each page should of ended with 'if you found this interesting, pick up his other book'. i think my favourite book of his is either Earth Magic, or Living Wicca.
while i kind of feel like i praise Scott too much [and yes i have read other authors] i really admire his work, and i do recommend it. [in regards to Conway being mentioned, avoid her because she's really not the most reliable source, but if you feel you must draw your own conclusion, wait a year so you know what's real and whats not]
Raymond Buckland, Doreen Valiente, Janet and Stuart Farrar, are some good authors. [then you've also got Gerald Gardner, Aleister Crowley and Alex Sanders who many feel you should research and read books by] personal one for me is Deborah Blake, i quite like her writing style, don't know if anyones read anything by her. anyway, enjoy the book.
Thank you everyone for all the advice and recommendations :) i will keep all that in mind when purchasing my next books.
about conway...i did see a lot of mixed reviews about her.what i purchased was actually a tarot card deck but she wrote the instructional book i guess thats not too bad because im aware that interpreting the cards will depend more on me and my feelings more than the instructional book
