My mother is a catholic and thinks that witchcraft is the devil's workings or that it's bad. I've been studying witchcraft for about 5 years now and I think I'm ready to start casting spells but I don't know how to do it discreetly without my mother knowing. Can someone give me some ideas? Thanks!
Do it in the night time. If you burn candles say you just like candle light. I know how you feel. I also keep it secret. And don't speak too loudly. Or go into a forest or somewhere she doesn't see you. But make sure that there is none who could tell her or anyone who shouldn't know it.

Ironically, if your mother is a true Catholic, she practices magic though she may not see it that way nor call it that.
As far as advice goes, honestly, if you're in her home and if you aren't paying rent, what she says goes. It's a matter of respect for the person who is supporting and taking care of you.

Meditation is something accepted throughout all religions, and it's scientifically supported to help your mental and emotional health. If you work on entering a trance, you can do rituals in your mind without ever moving a muscle. Some people actually work the ritual in the astral, others merely use visualization. You can use a rosary to keep track of your own mantras/chants and you can speak them inaudibly--mumble or mouth the words softly.
There is no need for candles, circles, or tools. Some of my best spell work was spur of the moment.
Try shifting your studies to words of power and mantra. I highly recommend the book Magic Power Language Symbol by Patrick Dunn to get you started.
Thanks guys! Im looking into eclectric work. i really like your opinions so thanks! I think i'll try to talk to her about it. My grandmother is also wiccan so maybe she will understand if i explain it to her.

Conjure Lady is spot on both counts. As a practicing Roman Catholic, there is an incredible sense of magick in the ritual of the mass. Though I wouldn't say that out loud where I live ; )
Also, about respecting your mother's home. If you've waited 5 years to practice maybe you can wait just a little longer until you can set yourself up outside the home.
WhiteRaven, I like what you said about using the rosary to keep track of mantras and enns and the like that is a brilliant idea.
