How do I know if there is a haunting in my house or if there is a ghost or demon in my house. I have had suspicions for many years now that there my house is haunted.
The first step is to determine, as best you can, whether or not you truly have a legitimate case of a haunting. Not all hauntings are alike, and they may exhibit a variety of phenomena. Some hauntings feature a single phenomenon - such as a particular door slamming shut that occurs repeatedly - while others consist of many different phenomena, ranging from odd noises to full-blown apparitions.
The signs that could indicate that your house is haunted are, but not limited to:
~Unexplained noises: footsteps, knocks, banging, rapping, scratching sounds, sounds of something being dropped. Sometimes these noises can be subtle and other times they can be quite loud.
~Doors, cabinets and cupboards opening and closing: most often, these phenomena are not seen directly. The experiencer either hears the distinct sounds of the doors opening and closing (homeowners get to know quite well the distinctive sounds their houses make) or the experiencer will return to a room to find a door open or closed when they are certain that it was left in the opposite position. Sometimes furniture, like kitchen chairs, are perceived to have been moved. Very rarely will the experiencer actually witness the phenomenon taking place.
~Lights turning off and on: likewise, these events are seldom seen actually occurring, but the lights are switched on or off when the experiencer knows they were not left that way. This can also happen with TVs, radios and other electrically powered items.
~Items dissapearing and reappearing: it's the all too familiar (and frustrating) experience of not being able to find a regularly used item. But they're gone and you look high and low for them with no success. Some time later, the the object(s)are found - in exactly the place you normally put it/them. It's as if the object was borrowed by someone or something for a short time, then returned. Sometimes they are not returned for days or even weeks, but when they are, it's in an obvious place that could not have been missed by even a casual search.
~Unexplained shadows: the sighting of floating shapes and shadows, usually seen out of the corner of the eye. Many times, the shadows have vaguely human forms(what are called shadow people) while other times they are less distinguishable or smaller.
~Strange animal behavior:a dog, cat or other pet behaves strangely. Dogs may bark at something unseen, cower without apparent reason or refuse to enter a room they normally do. Cats may seem to be watching something unseen cross a room. Animals have sharper senses than humans, and I beleive that their psychic abilities might be more finely tuned also.
Some stronger evidence that your house could be haunted are:
~Actually seeing objects move or lights switch on/off or electronincs going on/off or malfuntioning
~Feelings of being touched: the feeling of being watched is one thing, and actually feeling like you are being touched is quite another. Some people feel something brush past them, something touching their hair or a hand on the shoulder. Some feel a gentle poke, push or nudge.
~Cries and whispers: muffled voices, whispering and crying can be heard. Sometimes it's music from some unknown source. People hear their names being said.
~Cold or hot spots - cold spots are classic haunting symptoms, but any instance of a noticeable variance in temprature seemingly wwith no cause what so ever cause could be evidence.
~Cold or hot spots - cold spots are classic haunting symptoms, but any instance of a noticeable variance in temperature without a discernable cause could be evidence. The smell of sulfur is common with the presence of demonic entities
~scratches, slaps and hard shoves,
~Apparitions:physical manifestation of a spirit or entity. These phenemona can take many forms: human shaped mists or forming mists of some indistinguishable shape, transparent human forms that disappear quickly, and most rarely, human forms that look as real and solid as any living person, but that disappear into a room or even while being viewed.
If there are weird, unexplained things going on in your house, dont jump to conclusions and freak out, beacause they may be explainable. You need to rule out rational explainations:
~noises could be your house just settleing(or if you have old hardwood floors, those tend to be VERY noisy and creak by themselves often) or you could have mice or squirrels somewhere in your house.
~Opening and closing doors could be faulty hinges or caused by drafts
~Dissapering objects could be just carelessness and forgetfulness.
~Shadows could be just that - shadows caused, perhaps, by a passing cars headlights or shadows caused by you.
~As real as some of these things might seem to you, they really could be just products of your imagination (happens with me all of the time,)
~Or other rational or obvious reasons or causes of things that easily debunk it.
we hav a bunch of those signs in our house. I cant rule them all out though. I dont know what "debunk" means? and my house is only 10 years old i think.
Debunk:expose the falseness or hollowness of (a myth, idea, or belief).
I was about to say, if your house was many decades old, then that could increase the possibility of it being haunted, beacause of more people living there, means more activity, and also people could have died there. But an old house also means explainable noises and creaks identifiable as caused by reasons other than those paranormal. But if your house isnt that old, then thats different.
Are you the first owner of the house or has there been more residents before you?
One thing that I would do first is to look into doing some research on the history of your house. there may not be much, since your house is only a decade old. Also it may not be a bad idea to research the property. check out the history to that. That wouldnt be good if your house was built upon an ancient indian burial ground (that was just a wild example, most likely NOT true, so dont get the wrong idea).
Oh, yeah. sorry, I forgot to mention: if possible, try to figure out who the past owners of the house were. do some research on that. It is possible that they could have been doing some weird stuff in the house. such as carelessly attempting to contact spirits, opening your house to them. or maybe they were satanists or some other evil.and the house was introduced to demons. (Again, just wild examples: the past owners could have very well just been completely normal, every day people.)
