I've practiced witchcraft for 7 years now and I've tried the solitary initiation on here but it seems hat it did not work is there anyone with the proper knowledge to educate me on this?
Unless you're going for a traditional method, the importance of initiation lies solely upon your preference of whether or not to have one. Ask yourself, why do you want one? What do you think will come of it? How do you think it will be different than the last seven years you have practiced?
I'm not belittling the idea of initiation, I'm just trying to make sure you have an idea of what you really want.
One does not become initiated by casting a spell. To be initiated one needs someone to initiate you and a group to be initiated into. The idea of " solitary initiation " isn't correct. What one does as a solitary is to dedicate oneself to a particular path whether that be simply to magic or to one of the spiritual paths such as Wicca. So the more accurate term to use would be " solitary dedication ." That doesn't require a spell. However, you might wish to do some sort of small ritual to mark this dedication as being important in your mind.
As Lark said, no spell will make you a witch, you're looking for a self dedication ritual... Unless you already know a coven of witches but they should have a ritual in that case.
Anyone can pick up a wand and say they're a witch, it takes a lot more to be one though. The dedication ritual is meant to basically introduce yourself to your deities and explain why you wish to walk this path.
Please note you can cast spells and not walk a pagan path, but if you choose to be a witch [who follows sabbats, attuned to nature, and worships 'ancient gods'] then a dedication ritual is a good idea. There are many options for you but the key is to connect with the Gods and speak honestly as to why you wish to learn.
The above posts have been correct, as the fact that being a traditional witch, or wiccan you must first be dedicated, and initated by another witch.
While this is important, as it was back then, not being initated does in no way, make you any less than equal spiritually as a dedicated practioner, and person. The reason i believe for, initation, is that this helps by you having to pass courses that are strictly taught by priests/priestess, and thus havingbto prove yourself can indeed help. I believe initation was important back then. Why? Well when you initate you state, you keep the craft's secrets, and initation is a lengthy process. What your looking for is a dedication, thus meaning you decide to walk the path of the ancient, and familiarize yourself with the old gods. Following the way, and honouring nature, and it's gifts.
While in recent years, due to Scott Cunningham, there has been some anmosity towards solitary initates. Due to the books of Scott Cunningham, and Raymond Buckland, it is now said that you too, can do a solitary initation. Truth is, people who still are traditional( I am not bashing!) tend to partake this as not acceptable. Which in a way is right, but another is wrong. How? Well due to the recent uptake with more practicioners of the craft, not everyone can find a coven to partake in, as well as books that give not only help for the young solitaire, but as well as saying that they too, can indeed partake in solitary initation. Thus due to this, many often work solitaire now.
First off, solitary initation in this day and, age in my belief is now acceptable. However people may veiw it, we still each have a right to do what we want. On the other hand, traditionally speaking, the old ways stated, ''a witch can make a witch'' or, ''A witch can only make another witch''. In a way i agree with both. But with that said, in my veiw, solitary initation is okay, but once you do it, you can't go back. You can't quite, you can not give up. Bye
As solitary practitioner I wanted to dedicate myself to my cause; to discover myself and experience the universe. Like Odin, sacrificing thyself unto thyself. To me initiation is like stepping through the first veil, all is not as it seems anymore. I am unsure of when I was initially initiated, maybe it was more so a time period of change.
Anyways, initiation may not be what you think, and you may not know until looking back.
Stay true to self and your individual path and the rest will follow.
I do not believe initiation is a necessity unless you're practicing the strictest and oldest forms that practically run on traditions. Otherwise, it is a matter of choice.
A self initiation is like a self high five in public. It doesn't do much. One doesn't need to be initiated to be a solitary practitioner, all you need yo do is prove to yourself you are capable of learning by yourself. Most initiations are done for more coven settings. Yet, you could do one for yourself, but it will be kind of pointless.
I disagree zeus, a self initiation is a private matter and not "a self-high five" as you say. I feel you are misunderstanding the point altogether, initiation isn't to prove anything, it is for your own benefit as practitioner. No it is not neccessary, but it's not pointless either.
