Mental Health Advice
By: / Novice
Alright so my dad has been struggling with his mental health for some time now although recently his dementia has grown more intense. He is already being treated medically and I’m doing what I can to help out but as things are becoming more difficult to manage I was curious to see if anyone had any particular suggestions.

At the moment I have my own small ritual devised and regularly use gingko where I can get away with it. There is of course the rather obvious suggestion that we need some extra support in caring for him but getting my mam to admit that is another metaphorical mountain.

Thanks in advance for any support you guys can offer.

All the hope and supportive vibes for you and your family. Going through the same with my grandfather, and it's extremely taxing.

My heart goes out to you, my friend. My father's father died of alzheimers and it was not pretty. Unfortunately, Dementia is a really rough condition and is always changing for the worst. I can only hope he gets better and if not, peace will await him in the next life.

My father also suffers from mental health disorders, but none as extreme as your father's. My prayers are with you and your family.

Be well.

Alzeimer's is a disease, and is incurable, but there is treatment, and care available. There are many types of alzeimers, but all types are progressive.
Dementia is caused by Alzeimer's Disease, but it is not the only cause. My ex-wife has Frontal Lobe Epilepsy, and has "short term memory loss", but she does not have Alzeimer's. Dementia can be caused by all kinds of brain damage, slight or severe; and often caused by age.I am 82 and I do have some memory loss, but that is normal; it is not Alzeimer's Disease.
But, as has been said above, Alzeimer's and severe Dementia, are dreadful conditions; and are a terrible drag on the family and carers.

While it may not help too much, it may put him at ease if you do a simple cleansing ritual.

I understand completely how dementia can destroy someone. My great grandmother battled with it for five years before passing. Just make sure he feels loved every day and that he is completely relaxed.

My heart goes out to you and your family, Murfie.

My heart goes out to you as well.

I'm sure you are overwhelmed. But like Brysing and the others have said, it is unfortunately progressive and most likely won't get better. But, try doing some daily meditation and relaxation techniques to ease your stress and pain!
