Advice?
By:
I need advice. I'm seventeen. I've been studying wicca for a while now. So, while I was tending to my alter, my mother walked in. She freaked out and started yelling, thinking I was doing something satanic. I tried to explain to her the fundamentals of my beliefs, like nature is sacred, honor gods and goddesses, and so on. but, shes so simple minded, and not even open to philosophical theories, spiritual altitudes, or the ideology of other religions. She'll never see paganism, wicca, or anything in that range. How can I practice without feeling guilty about disobeying her?

Well either keep trying to convince her or give up it sounds like. Unless your willing to use magick on here just keep trying to tell her magick is a science. Their are even articles on the net talking about how it works and that it works on an sub-atomic level.

Or realize your not doing anything wrong and she's just trying to control you because she fears it because its different from what she knows and just stop feeling guilty. You convince her, you let your mother control you or be your own person and continue knowing your not doing anything wrong.

I feel for you!

At this point, all you can do is be honest with her. Don't start arguments. Try to research the misconceptions of Paganism and sit down with her and educate her about what you believe and why you feel it's right for you. She is only afraid of the unknown that this path brings to her mind. I've been out of the closet with it for two years now and I still get similar reactions.

Just know that whatever she thinks in the end, she can not strip your beliefs away from your heart. But, being the parent of a minor, it is her house and her rules. If she doesn't want you practicing a religion that goes against her values in her home, then the most mature thing to do would be to obey that. It takes time and a bit of grief to get through, but you can learn, communicate, and study in a non-Pagan home, especially with the blessing of the Internet.

Feel free to message me for advice. I hope everything works out!

omg, lunargoddess, that was literally the best advice. Thank you, I absolutely appreciate it! It's just so frustrating not being able to properly honor my beliefs, you know? But, like you said, that's exactly what the internet is for. hahah. Thank you, again!
