Opiouns please!

Hi everyone:)
Is it misleading for a spell caster to say they cast spells for free, and then charge you for the "items"? Personally, I don't think any items are needed for spells, I have had a free spell cast on me(no I will not say what kind of spell), with just a picture, so I don't get the whole magic "items" thing, I just don't:(! Would someone mind explaining, or at least give me their opinion? Well, I hope to hear from you soon:)!

Well, first, more complex spells do require some items. Secondly, I somewhat agree, they should say free with the exception of charge for items if needed.

I should also add, if they ask for a rediculous amount, they are probably trying to scam. If they ask for somewhere the price of a candle, then it would be reasonable, but say they ask for twice or nearly twice as much, then they are likely scamming, etc.
