Hello everyone and Merry Meet! I come to you today to write a short post on how to start your book of shadows.
What is a Book of Shadows?
A Book of shadows is a book that a witch, wiccan or anyone can write their spells, rituals inside. A book of shadows can be used for anthing that is magick or occult related. A book of shadows is your safe place for spells.
How Can I Make a Book of Shadows
You can make your Book of shadows out of anyhing, from a plain journal you can buy from a store, to a special leather book. A great place to look is barns and noble they have a great selection of leather journals. But be warned their prices on the journals can range from $20 to $30 dollars. Depending on the qaulity.
You can buy your own paper and art supplies to make your book of shadows, i would recomend geting leather for covers. But what ever you feel is right for your BOS.
Blessing your Book of Shadows
It also a good idea to bless your book of shadows for protection against harmful spells or negative energy. It helps to keep it out. You can bless your book of shadows any time. But i would suggest doing this when the moon is new moon phase.
Remember your book of shadows is very important. And should be abused in anyway. Only write what you feel is needed in your book of shadows.
I hope this helps anyone who is starting out with their book of shadows.
i'm thinking about getting one of those leather books with a design carved into them and a stone in the cover for a BoS of sorts, for my Dragon Magic knowledge. that's gonna run me a pretty penny. most of my BoS have been gifts, or cost around 1$ for a blank book
Think of it as your own personal journal for keeping track of your thoughts, experiences, spells, rituals, research, etc. You can decorate it, keep it plain, or buy a pre-made one. I'd recommend either starting with a plain one or one you make yourself - I find that makes them feel a lot more personal, and it's fun to decorate it! Get creative! Nowadays, there are some witches who have gone technological, and they keep their BOSs on their computers; fancy fonts, watermarks, images, links - you can definitely store a lot more information and have a lot of customizable options, but it's recommended that you stick with a hard copy BOS.
uh, if i uhdestand you correctly, a book of shadows can be the same as a journal depending. you could write down your experiences with spells, or things you've predicted, so in that way a BoS could be like a journal.
however, traditional BoS, these are made up of spells, how to cast circles, rituals, sabbats, lists of dieties and their mythos, herbs and their magical properties and so on.
basically, a BoS is anything you make of it, as long as the book has something to do with magic.
