Viking rune question
By: / Beginner
Hello everyone, I'm Freya. Recently I've been learning about Viking runes, their meaning and how to use them. An online PDF book I'm currently reading is called "The Viking Runes" it doesn't say the author :( anyway this book led me to believe that to work with runes you need to have them on either a piece of fabric or engraved in a stone. As I don't have either of these things I was wondering if I can just write them on a piece of paper. And just so you know I'm not currently trying to use them for anything I was just curious.

Thank you for any replies blessed be )o(

Traditionally runes were craved into wood. If you are learning them, paper is acceptable.

Paper is fine. If you can afford to have fancier runes, then that's fine too. You can use whatever is available to you :)

You can also make your own rune 'stones' if you have access to clay or crafting materials like crafting plastics.

A product that is pretty cheap and easy to work with is called 'friendly plastic'. It comes in metallic-colored strips and you just put it in hot water for a minute to soften, then you can shape however you want until it cools. You could cut a piece, heat, roll it into a ball or small cylinder and cut to a desired width, then press in or draw the rune and let it cool.

Another option would be bake-ables like Sculpey crafting clay.
