I've recently come out of a difficult time of mental and emotional health issues, and it feels as if some of the energy has just seeped into the walls of my home. Thing is, I'm in university accommodation, so I can't use either candles or incense as they're a fire hazard and disallowed in our agreement.
I've sprinkled salt and moonwater, gotten amethyst to keep by my door and carry basil with me. I can't see many more options for getting rid of this energy, other than getting rid of a few troublesome objects.
Well Nymree, there are multiple ways you could purge you space of any negativity. I understand your agreement with the university, as a matter of fact a lot of us have the same issues. Many people today live in apartments or dorms, and ask ourselves the same question, wondering how to purge through the past. Here are some of the things i've tried and they actually work well. For this we will actually be using a lot of elemental magick, and the primary element we will be working with Water. We use water because it deals with emotional energy. First get yourself one of those fountains you can find at like the supermarket for like $5 usd, follow the instructions and put water and run it, let the sound of water quietly calm your space with white noise. Second, I have a Recipe for a smuging spray and you can use it with either fresh or dried herbs, or essential oils. I normally use essential oils because they are clear and don't clog up the spray bottle. Here is the recipe:
What you will need:
1 Moonstone
1 Black Obsidian
1 Quartz
1 Piece of Moldavite (optional)
3 Sprigs of Juniper or 3 drops Juniper oil
3 sprigs of Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) or 3 Lavender oil
3 sprigs of sage
3 sprigs of Rosemary or 3 drops Rosemary oil
3 Large Pieces of Lemon Peel or 3 Drops Lemon essential oil (NOT EXTRACT it is not the same)
a cauldron or pot
water (spring is best but tap will do)
Spray bottle (any size)
Directions:
First put the crystals in the pot and pour the water over them. Imagine that the energy is making the water murky and the water is full of energy. remember to concentrate elemental magick is basic but works best with concentration. Remove the crystals and bring water to a rapid boil. Add herbs or oils and concentrate on protection and what your life will be like after everything becomes calm. Let herbs boil for about 2 minutes, you should be able to smell the herbs. reduce heat and let herbs simmer for about 5 minutes. After that turn the heat off and let cool. Once cool it should be ready to be transferred to the spray bottle. When not in use keep in a cool dark place (very important!). Use every month by spraying ALL corners in the place. by all corners I mean where one flat surface meets another at a different angle. Repeat every month and make another batch when bottle is all used up. You can use this in your house, car, or person it is easy and effective. Use your energy and visualize a strong bubble around your building, made of whatever you feel comfortable ice, light, water, light or air, using something that shows up in your life and something you are drawn to strengthens the effects because that is your "element" and it is strong with you. If there is anything i could help with message me back.
A lot of witches will 'sweep' out the negative energy with a broom. Most use a besom but I dont have one so a regular broom works just fine. Sometimes I will throw salt or black salt on the floor to absorb the bad energy and then I sweep it up and dispose of it outside my home to get rid of it.
You can also mix essential oils with water to make cleansing sprays. I would pick oils that have cleansing properties such as sage since you can't burn any in your dormitory. You can just open the window and spray it around the room. There are many other ways to do area cleansing, I personally like these because there's little to no hassle involved.
You could also consider making a Witch Bottle to gather up any existing negative energy and any negative energy that might enter the room in the future. There's an article on making one at https://www.thoughtco.com/make-a-witch-bottle-2562680
