Hey guys!
I was wondering if anyone has any advice for banishing stubborn entities. There's been something hanging around my house for months, and nothing I'm doing is helping for the long-term. My dogs bark at empty rooms that they were fine with 10 minutes and no changes previously, and I get the occasional whiff of the stench of something dead. Whatever it is hasn't physically attacked anyone in the house, but there's a total shift in mood when it's around--everyone starts arguing and being snippy for no apparent reason, and electronics start acting up (crashes for no reason, etc). I've been saging with dragonsblood-infused white sage each time it comes back, making sure to sage from the back of the house to the front door-- just in case the superstition of saging from the front door inviting things in holds any truth--and while everyone's home in case it's tied to someone, but it always comes back within a few weeks, even if I burn so much sage that I'm more fumigating the house than just saging it. My process is to sage with all the windows closed, then snuff the sage and open all the windows to let the smoke take whatever it is outside, following with dragonsblood and frankincense incense. I don't usually say an incantation, just because I haven't gotten to writing one.
If anyone has any tips on things I'm doing wrong, please let me know. Also, if anyone has any incantations (I haven't looked in Spells because there's so many fictional ones from books and such that it's hard to discern sometimes), sigils, or advice regarding other materials that might help banish this entity and keep it out, I would greatly appreciate it!!
I haven't found anything that would work right so far--most ward things I've found are things saying to put things like religious symbols and objects around the house, and since I'm not traditionally religious, I'm concerned that it wouldn't matter whether I put crosses/effigies/etc up if I'm not a practitioner of the faith. I verge more towards druidry and witchcraft that doesn't involve deities, are there wards and such that I'm not thinking of that I might be able to put up?

There are many, many ways of constructing wards. And wards are really necessary if you don't want nastys to come back in once you throw them out. Otherwise it's like tossing the cat out the door, leaving the door open, and expecting the cat not to run back in. I wrote a thread on wards that has a number of resources listed that you can find here - https://www.spellsofmagic.com/read_post.html?post=871171
There are plenty of methods of anchoring one's wards that do not require religious symbols. The nails that I use come from traditional Witchcraft. And perhaps one of the simplest ways to establish a ward is by sprinkling the threshold (door and window sills) with salt. If you can find them, rowan branches over the door are a traditional ward.
Witch balls are another traditional way to ward off evil spirits and negativity. These consist of a clear, hollow ball with something in it to trap the negative energy. The simple ones I make begin by buying some of the clear Christmas ornaments that have removable tops. I then carefully remove the top and then put in a tangle of threads while chanting "Tangle the bane, tangle the bane" . Replace the top and hang it near your widows or doors.
You can also charge a small object such as a figurine or other decorative piece to protect your living space and place it near to your door. Something like a small figure of a dog (Which suggests guarding) would work well. Just remember to re-energize it periodically.
As has been mentioned already, you can use a variety of sigils to ward the entrances to your home.
Drawing a pentagram over each door and window into your home is an easy sigil to use (And not specifically linked to a religion) Pentagrams are ancient symbols of protection.
Runes are also a useful sigil that can be used. The classic symbol is the Helm of Awe which is a form of bind-rune. http://realrunemagick.blogspot.com/2014/07/aegusjhalmur-helm-of-awe-what-does-it.html You can sometimes find this rune as a stick-on to put on your windows which is a simple way of creating a ward.
And for someone who follows Druidry, the solar cross would be a useful symbol. The solar cross is an equal armed cross within a circle.
Hope this gives you some useful ideas for ways to prevent your pesky spirit from returning. And do check out the resources I listed in my linked thread. Ask me if there is anything you aren't clear on or would like more information about.
I wouldn't say thatyou would need to say any incantations, per se. But it does help to verballt set some ground rules or otherwise make some sort of statement of authority while doing a clense. Adding more smoke doesn't usually translate to a stronger banishment. What -does-, however, is to make a firm and confident statement that what you are chasing out is not allowed back. After all it is pointless to kick a person out of your home if you walk away with the door still open. Same goes for entities.
It can be as simple as directly adressing the entity and saying "get out, and stay out. You are no longer welcome." And physically opening the door to let out the last bit of smudge then closing the door solidly and locking ot hard enough to clearly hear the nolt slide home.
The rest is upkeep, so to speak. Actively work to foster positive thoughts and energies in your home on a continuing basis. Take time every couple of nights to shut off the router and play some cards or a board game with the family. Or just sit and talk and laugh. Maybe do a spot of physical cleaning together. Nothing major or strenuous, maybe tackle the vacuuming or sweep and mop together. Anything that has you actuvely engaged with eachother and your home.
Negativity is drawn to negativity. Consider there might be something out of balance in the home that is catching the attention of this entity.
Also consider the entity itself is a being out of balance and seeking some sort of healing or letting go. Sometimes they are not actively trying to cause negativity, but it happens as a result of their own hurt/imbalan e radiates from them. Like how when one really sad person walks into a crowded room. The person doesn't mean for everyone else to become sad. It just happens.
If all else fails ask it why it is here. If there is a specific purpose (other than just mischief) it might find some way of tellng you. Often even just that is enough for it to be able/willing to move on.
Thank you guys so much!! Lark, I'll try out some of the sigils and wards this afternoon when I do the next cleansing (I have to wait for a family member to get home)!! You guys have been super helpful!!
Usually as well whenever I have to banish an entity, I will tell it, in a very stern voice that it needs to leave and that it is not welcomed. You also need to ensure that the mind you are casting it out with is solid and self-assured so that the entity knows it does not have a chance to break you down. I've found that once an entity realizes that you are of a stronger will than it is, it moves on.
