Chanting and reciting

Im wondering, im really unsure what the difference between reciting/saying and chanting is? When you chant a spell, what do you do differently then reciting it?

For me speaking a spell is speaking the words as they are, once.
Chanting is repeating the same words over and over gain to raise the energy of the working.

There are a lot of variations in verbalizing magickal workings. One can speak the words in a calm tone without any rhyming or repetition. Emotion can be added putting emphasis on certain words or phrases. The entire working can be a combination of all of the above.

Chanting usually has repetitive phrases and rising or slowing tempo. Some faiths drum or rythmically react with the chanting especially in groups. An example could be described as a group of people all sitting at a long table pounding bowls and spoons in rythm and chanting “We want more”, “We want more”. Hope that puts some light on the subject.

Some religions, beliefs, and paths assign value to repetitive chants while others less so. Prayer wheels may serve a similar purpose. The value of repetition and chanting varies with the belief system and also with the needs, goals, and conceptions of the individual practitioner. Chanting may, for example, be a useful tool in meditative induction.
