Hello, I'm an avid collector of books concerning magic, and would like to hear some recommendations from some of you. Most of my books cover folk practices, herbalism, kitchen witchery, and beginner topics. Please recommend your favorite magical books, authors, or sites to obtain books. Thank you!
Most of my own reading has been more 'new-age' than specifically magical, but considering how overlapped spiritual journey is I think most would still have at least - some - relevance;
Star signs, Love signs, and Goobers by Linda Goodman.
Way of the peaceful warrior, Journey of Socrates, and The life you were born to live by Dan Millman.
The five people you meet in heaven, and Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom.
Nature-speak, Animal-speak, and The art of shapeshifting by Ted Andrews.
Phoenix Rising and Dream Symbols by Mary Summer-rain.
Dancing with Dragons and Mystical Dragon Magic by D.J. Conway
Do it yourself Astrology by Lyn Birkbeck.
Shamanic Spirit by Kenneth Meadows.
The power of now by Eckhart Tolle
The road less traveled by M. Scott Peck
The dark side of the light chasers by Debbie Ford.
Earth Power by Scott Cunningham.
The Tao of Pooh and the Te of piglet by Benjamin Hobb.
The crystal Bible by Judy Hall.
Spirit guides and Angel guardians by Richard Webster.
Hands of light by Barbara Ann Brennan.
The energy healing experiments by Gary E. Schwartz (PhD)
Journey of souls and Destiny of Souls by Michael Newton.
Iron Shirt Chi Kung by Mantak Chia.
Year of the Magickal Dragon by Virginia Chandler.
And, finally, one that I recently got but haven't gotten around to reading yet; Dragons your Celestial guardians by Diana Cooper.
Many of my books are more related to shamanic practice or lately divination type books, mainly dealing with cartomancy.
I don't personally have a large stock of witchcraft books myself despite being a practitioner.
I rather enjoy books on particular topics. I collect a lot of yoga, Feng shui, and flower arranging or plant books.
The last book I purchased was geared more toward shamanic practice, and I can recommend a few in this category.
Witchcraft specific I do not have too much to recommend. I last really bought witchcraft books in the mid 90s and they weren't any I'd truly recommend.
For Fae work I may recommend Urban Faery Magick, by Tara Sanchez.

For those of you who have been practicing Wicca for a number of years and who want to move beyond the Wicca 101 books here are some books that I'd suggest:
" Castings " by Ivo Dominguez
" A Study of Witchcraft " by Deborah Lipp
" Devoted to You " by Judy Harrow
" The Elements of Ritual " by Deborah Lipp
" The Other Side of Virtue " by Brendan Myers
" Covensense " by Patricia Crowther
" Wicca Coven s" by Judy Harrow
" Gerald Gardner and the Cauldron of Inspiration " by Phillip Heselton
" Witch Fathe r" by Phillip Heselton
" Religion Without Beliefs " by Fred Lamond
" Spiritual Mentoring " by Judy Harrow
"T he Pagan Book of Living and Dying " by Starhawk and M. Macha Nightmare
Remember though that once you get beyond basic books on Wicca some of the best reading you will do won't necessarily be in books on Wicca but books on other topics that relate to your spiritual practices. Here's some other reading that I'd recommend:
Theology:
" Pagan Theology; Paganism as a World Religion " by Michael York
" A World Full of Gods: An Inquiry into Polytheism " by John Michael Greer
" The Deities Are Many: A Polytheistic Theology " by Jordan D. Paper
Ethics:
" When, Why...If " by Robin Wood
"An Ye Harm None: Magical Morality and Modern Ethic s" by Shelley Rabinovitch & Meredith MacDonald
" Living with Honou r" by Emma Restall Orr
" The Other Side of Virtue " by Brendan Myers
" Ethics for the New Millennium " by the Dalai Lama
Living Mindfully:
" The Miracle of Mindfulness " by Thich Nhat Hanh
" Living the Mindful Life " by Charles Tart
History:
" Pagan Religions of the Ancient British Isles " by Ronald Hutton
" Stations of the Sun " by Ronald Hutton
" Triumph of the Moon " by Ronald Hutton
Personal Transformation:
" Make Magic of Your Life: Passion, Purpose, and the Power of Desire " by T. Thorn Coyle
" Kissing the Limitless " by T. Thorn Coyle
Magick:
" Modern Magick " by Donald Michael Kraig
" The Veil's Edg e" by Willow Polson
" The Path Through the Labyrinth " by Marian Green
Thich Nhat Hanh does indeed have a good selection of titles to draw from. I like many of his books.
Also, I agree that getting beyond the basics seems to involve deeper exploration into philosophy, morality, Self discovery, and learning about history, lore, and culture. Magic as an act is... surprisingly basic. It is in learning the when, where, and (to me most importantly) why that takes the most time and consideration. Any person with a bit of chalk can draw a circle. What takes a lot of time and understanding is in learning when to do so.
